Need some feedback/opinions on how to structure the 12U. Should we do an 11U too, or throw all the teams 99 and 98s together. I prefer to split them, but I also understand that some 99s have 98s just to fill roster spots. Also there are the 99s who picked up 98 catch/pitch combos just to compete w/ the 98s.

Suggestions??

Did you decide on 01s or 14U?

Let those that picked up the 98's play with the 98's and let the 99's play together. If you are truely doing an invite only, that should be managable. There are enough 99 teams (without 98's) in Texas to get them together for one tournament. If invites go out and you can get several teams signed up, the rest of the talented 99 teams will come and that would be a very competitive tournament. I can tell you the Mizuno one was last year. The 3 Texas teams that placed in the top 4 also placed very well at ASA A Nationals (2 in top 10). Those teams still exist in one form or another and are still 99 teams. Many of the others in that tournament (Mizuno) are also still together. Hopefully the Cenla team and OK team will agree to come. Was a blast last year. You might even play out the 98 and 99 division and then play the winners against one another in a "best of the best" type thing. The 99's might even get some bragging rights... :o ! Good luck with your tournament.

If the tournament is 10u,12u,and 14u then play it that way. Know need to split 99 and 98. It want be that way at ASA National. If you are afraid dont play.

I guess I missed something. I don't believe twinsmom was suggesting that they were afraid to play anyone. I think she was just making a suggestion. We all know how the system works for 10U, 12U, and 14U at ASA. As far as I can tell this is an invitational and the TD was asking for suggestions, which twinsmom offered. Most of the good '99 teams have no fear of playing the good '98 teams at all. Whatever the TD decides to do, he will have a great field of teams that compete well and bring notoriety to the tournament if the teams that are invited accept the invite. I would be okay with the tourney split into '99 and '98 or if they were all thrown in together as in most tournaments, but twinsmom is correct in that the best '99 teams in this region tend to sign up where the others are competing when it is convenient.

you'd get a better turnout split by years i'd imagine. 99's would show, but the top 10 98 teams wouldnt be much interested in seeing em. mizuno thing happened cause it was all 99 and a bunch of em had never seen each other.

Marty, David,

You are both right. There will be enough interest to have '99's play each other and '98's play each other. For the most part the top '98's are playing in 14U tournaments partly because they want to push their teams. That is not to say that a top '99 team cannot beat a top '98 team. The '98's are physically stronger though at this time.

Twinsmom has a good idea. Have the champion of the '99 bracket play the champion of the '98 bracket.
