Daddy ball at a whole new level

by Blind Squirrel » Thu Oct 14, 2010 2:53 pm

I wonder what the ratio is: How much time is spent by parents complaining about this versus the amount of time kids spend complaining about it?

My Kid's Rec team could be 11 and 1 instead of 8 and 4 Squirrel
10 years from now I'll wish I felt like I do these days.

It's comical, really. Dads are supposed to donate countless hours of their time but gain no advantage whatsoever for their kids. Travel coaches are supposed to account for every penny of team money to ensure that nothing was "misspent."

These people whine about the injustice of it all while they scarf down their nachos, and shamelessly demand pure altruism from others on their behalf. It's unheard of.

Oh wait...

Found this on E Teamz, paraphrased from A Few Good Men...

"Parents, we live in a world that has children and those children need to be coached by men with clipboards. Who's going to do it? You? I have a greater responsibility than you can possibly fathom. You weep for your child's playing time and curse his position; you have the luxury of not knowing what I know - that your child's playing time, while minimal, wins games, and his position, while literally out in right field, wins games! I have neither the time nor the inclination to explain myself to a parent who drops their kid off for me to coach and then questions the manner in which I coach him. I would rather you just said "Thank you". Otherwise, I suggest you pick up a clipboard and coach a team... Either way, I don't give a $#@% what you think your kid is entitled to!"

My better half and I have always been involved with our kids sports teams. We don't "drop them off" and then question the coach. The only reason I thought this was crazy, was because 1 person's kid was being treated more important than all the other kids. That is not acceptable when we are trying to teach our kids, team first. The simple fact is, "daddyball" has no place on a TEAM! With that said, Thank goodness for all the Dads and Moms who coach for our kids without doing the whole "daddyball/friendball" thing!

What a shame one guy decided to use girls sports as the object of a scam, but its a great lesson for your girls in overcoming adversity. Compared to this, a few bad calls from blue will be nothing.

Good luck to your girls.
