Let me clarify a little bit. Yes they are ear phones but these are specially designed for motorcycle helmets or other types of crash helmets like paintball, snowboard, ski, BMX etc. We like to call then helmet speakers. They fit inside the helmet in the ear cavity allowing you to listen to your iPod mp3 player, or gps. They connect with an 1/8 inch standard connector that is supplied with the speakers. The XSound2 comes with a volume control wheel. If your state has helmet laws then this is your answer over earbuds that are constantly becoming dislodged. I have a Harley Road King with Screaming Eagle pipes, they are loud enough to overcome the rumble of the engine and provide great bass tones.
