Anderson Bat Q & A

What's on your mind?

Been waiting on the sidelines on this thread hoping to add my .02 with some relevant info. Here's the thing. I truly believe it is the Indian and not the arrow as Tumble has said before..maybe Sarge either way both seem to know their stuff as I do not know them personally. But if you could pick an arrow the Anderson bats are good place to end NOT start. Follow me on this. Finally purchased the Techzilla for DD in June. Took DD to BP and did teework. Daughter could not get the feel of bat as endload weighting made it feel heavier then 31/21 to her. Tried again in next two sessions and still could not get comfortable although when squared up-that sweet ping noise is followed by a drive that leaves dad wanting more. Alas, no cigar and DD goes back to Halo Light. Summer ends, DD finishes middle of pack on team in hitting. Fall begins with a move up in age..after first tournament our defense wins us games but clearly our hitting needed to pick up. Finally decided to think out of the box and take DD to hitting instructor outside of team coaches. First 3 lessons worked on mechanics, balance and timing with the idea of increasing bat speed..Different methods employed by instructor..TECHZILLA comes out of the bag to use as heavier bat to increase bat speed in training, uses it for teework and live BP. The proper mechanics and confidence she gains has her wanting to swing the Techzilla in live games as the ping noise becomes more common.
Instructor advises DD for this tournament swing your normal bat(Halo Light) so you concentrate on the basics. DD goes 5-8 on the weekend with solid singles. DD asks if on her last AB she can use the TECHZILLA. Fine. I thought she deserved it. Double to left center! Same location as previous hit but in the gap. There are many fine bats out there no doubt but the Anderson bat has become the end goal for dd. Take a lesson, put the work in so your dd can get comfortable with swinging an end loaded bat such as the RT or Techzilla. Then let her reap the rewards. I can't wait for her to swing Techzilla fulltime. My .02.

Good post, and entirely consistent with my experience. I don't know the details of what your instructor told your DD, obviously. But as I have posted - I think recently on this site, maybe even on this thread - end-loaded-bat comfort is GREATLY related to swing mechanics. "Traditional" softball hitting mechanics, which emphasize creating force with the arms and "taking the hands to the ball," create relatively little bat speed, make it easy to disconnect the arms from the body, and make an end-loaded bat feel very heavy. Change the mechanics to typical baseball mechanics - certainly the trend in elite softball - and the force is created by the body, and the job of the arms is to remain connected and deliver the power. When a hitter does this, she barely notices the weight of the bat. Another couple of ozs may be a lot if the arms are doing everything. It isn't much if the body is creating the force.

My guess is that you found a solid hitting instructor and are on the correct path mechanically. GReat! Further, I would imagine you'll be very pleased with your Anderson bat. If you can handle a slight end-load, the result is very gratifying.

Wishing you and your DD well,

Scott

Hey TB, I was wondering if you can give me an opinion. My daughter is 5'2" tall and about 125 lbs. She is a slapper and hitter depending on the defensive set-up. She currently is using a Easton stealth 32/22 and she chokes up about an inch. She hits with a 33/24 in the cage and seems to get a lot more pop off that bat. It seems to me that since she chokes up an inch that the 32" bat is a little short, but her hitting coach felt that a 33/24 was to big for her size and strength. So my question is what size NT to get her, a 32 or a 33? She is only 5'2" and not real big, but relatively strong for her size. I am torn. Any thoughts would be appreciated. Thx.

Well, it’s difficult to say without actually seeing your daughter swing but let's see if I can give you enough info to help you choose.

The Nano is very middle weighted with a small MOI which means it doesn’t take as much strength to get it started. Most girls can go up an inch without having to make any adjustment. I’ve been told, and I believe it was here, that it’s important to use the longest bat possible to cover the outside pitch. However, since she chokes up that inch, she should probably get a 32.

Having said that, you can buy the 33 from a dealer that participates in the “Proof is at the Plate” program and try it for thirty days and if she doesn’t like it, trade it for the 32 on us. Make sure the dealer participates in the program and keep your receipt.

Thanks for the response, it is kinda what I was thinking. I think you meant to say that since she chokes up an inch, you should get the 33", but you wrote 32". Am I correct? Also do you know of any dealers near Mesa, AZ 85206 that honor the return program? Thanks for the quick reply.

Well, I did mean 32" but I was assuming she wouldn't choke up any more or a 33" if she did. I guess I didn't make that clear, sorry.

To find a local dealer use your zip code here:

TB, Thanks for the help. I wasn't able to find the bat local but your customer service was able to give me several online options that honor the "free trial" program. Plus, no tax and free shipping you can't go wrong. One question though before i pull the trigger--will you guys be coming out with a 2011 version in the near future? And if so will there be any major changes that i should wait for? Thanks again for all your help.

This is a 2011 version. It was an early release of the 2011 model. The limited production early release sold out really fast. We're in full production now. The next version will be the 2012 model.

Loyola Marymount University is pleased to announce it has moved from the Miken product line to the Anderson product line. We believe that this is one of the very best (LEGAL) bats on the market today. The flagship bat, the RT, has been one of the best performing bats for a very long time. We have experienced it being used against us! We are happy to join them and know they will help our team performance. It is always good to be able to use such an outstanding product that is manufactured right here in So. Cal., and not at some overseas plant!

I will give a better update on performance when we have had a chance to swing them for more than a week. Finals week is hard to find time! Early reports from the players that have used them are that they already love the RT and the NANO. I am surprised that they took to them so quickly, as we all know how attached we get to "OUR OWN BAT"!

I hope we can represent them well, and that we have a very long relationship!
