Another Ball to face today

by scorkep » Sun Sep 19, 2010 2:58 pm

One more reason to tell your girls to wear masks! Our third baseman got hit in the head today with a hard line drive off a bat. I am an "old school" softball person and really had a hard time wanting the girls to wear those. But after seeing to much of girls getting hit in the face, we now are having our girls wear them. Time has change, balls and bats are different!

Our player went to ER, and she is going to be fine. But the doctor said a inch different and we are talking eye socket, nose. Said she was one tough kid.

Be safe girls!

IDK about masks, but I did see a coach get taken away by ambulance after taking a line drive to the temple while sitting on bucket in dugout exposed (scary). I sure hope that person is ok, I reminded my DD to make sure she is not exposed while standing or sitting in dugout.

On my DD's team today at practice, the entire infield wears a rip-it style mask...its was good to see. Mine is a catcher primarly, but also plays 1st. So, I was taken by suprise when we went by a vendor at Park City and she mentioned wanting one for playing at 1st...so we got one. I can see (at least on our team) that all infielders are wearing them. Im good with it...especially with 4 grand of metal in her mouth...

The girls always say it wont happen to them. But you never know when it's going to happen. Why wait for it to happen to your child. Save your self the heart ache and pain and get them a mask. Esp if they are playing the infield. You hear the stories and probably have seen it your self.
