Best Stall'ers - Who can Stall like no other!!!!

by YplayAwhenucanplayB » Thu May 08, 2008 11:18 am

Who can you NOT get behind or he/she will stall your team to death?!?!?!?

My vote - San Antonio Nightmare '94

If your losing to him with 20 minutes left......your are screwed. He'll sub every kid in, change cathcers, pitchers, argue with the ump, use all three timeouts......and burn all 20 minutes. He had a umpire and a team screwed up.....when time expired, the ump called ball game while the home team was still batting. Both teams emptied the dugouts before the home team realized he should have finished his AB's.....they did finish.....but it was crazy watching 18 minutes of stalling and 2 minutes of softball. Honestly, I put it on the ump......he could have stopped it.........but he's a San Marcos/Seguin/New Braunfels ump........he doesn't care about the kids.....its about the money.....but not to change the subject.......watch out for this team. I swear.....he'll turn a 70 min game into two innings if he gets a lead on you!!!!

So you go and blame the umpires again What is the deal with you and the umpire group I will invite you to call if you think you can do better. It is because of people like you that we cannot get new umpires. I still have an invitation for you to come call with me anyday. Everything the coach did was perfectly legal. Things like that happen when you have two teams that do not like each other and both want to win. At the end of the game the umpire was not the who won or lost the game.

I have no problem with the umpires from San Marcus, NB area. We played in the Blaze tourney last week at Gary fields and the crews we had there were some of the best I had seen in that area. If you were part of that tournament good job last week end.

In the end who cares about the best stallers. Everone knows the Nightmare coach stalls. The way you fix that is to take the game out of his hands. He can't stall if he is LOSING.

I do however have a hard time beleiving that a umpire can't get a handle on a coach trying to burn 20 minutes in a inning.

You are a umpire can you please tell me what the ASA rule book says about intenionally delaying a game?

I was in Del Valle most of the weekend, but also made it out to San Marcos this weekend for few games.......all those umps were new.......or atleast it wasn't the same crew I've seen out there. They were better, of course they had their blown calls and other negatives......huge difference......umps were in position, hustled, very friendly with the coaches, communicated well, no drama or over dramatic officals.....like the San Marcos crews that are usually out there.

It is because of people like you that we cannot get new umpires.
......why don't you find out where those guys came from.....and work with them to put a better Central Texas Crew together? I'd call with ya......but I'd have a problem working with a lazy, over dramatic umpire, with a attitude of, I'm never wrong. I've seen these new crew at Blaze and Stix tournaments.....I'd support those tournaments in Central Texas.

Oh, I noticed the 8's have recently played in those tournaments and I haven't heard any problems with their coach or him getting tossed.........see what happens when officals hustle and are approachable......you can contain a coach and prevent coaches from blowing up to the point you have to toss them.

Oh, D19softball.....i don't know who you are.....you might be one of the solid guys from your area....don't take it so personal....I just want to see better effort.....I know you crew is gonna blow calls.....so did the crew last weekend.......we parents want to see, hustle, effort and being approachable......and let it be about the kids......not how dramitic you guys can make a call.....that's when its about the umps.

While stalling may be legal, it is unsportsmanlike. It teaches players that cheating is acceptable if you can get away with it. There is nothing more disheartening than seeing a group of players giggling while their coach has them assembled in the pitching circle, clearly in response to his or her stalling tactics, and obviously in appreciation of their coach's decision to win at all costs. I don't know about you, but I don't want my kid playing for a coach who behaves like a jerk, and I have sworn that my kid will never play for certain coaches because of this very behavior. Funny, but I've seen more of this in Texas than anywhere else. Not in Florida, nor in the Northeast, or even in Louisiana. It is a common practice in Texas, and I suspect it is because the culture here finds arrogant and classless coaches acceptable as long as they are winning.

To answer the question regarding the umpires and their seeming inability to stop a twenty minute stall: I agree. They have the ability to control this. I have seen umps warn coaches and even stop the clock when necessary. The ump is in control of that field and that game, and can move the game along and make it a fair game by preventing this. Those who don't do something to stop the stalling just don't care, and unfortunately some don't seem to care.
