States postponed/Weekend Scramble

Just wanted to say Thanks to JYNX 12U for putting a friendly together at the last minute(ie..umpires , work crews, snack bar, etc...) for all teams to work and stay sharp for the up coming States tourney. Good food and nice fields on a hill top park made for a nice day. HAVE A GREAT MEMORIAL DAY & GOOD LUCK TO ALL IN STATES.

I saw a post on eteamz from AA's Ybarra about hosting games next Sunday. Are they not playing at State now???

So are they going to redraw or what? I can just hear the stream of profanities coming from the OC Impact camp....

I don't think they will redraw and I don't think they should. Postponed because of rain, well it happens. If any teams bail out just keep the brackets the same and keep moving forward. It's better to be lucky than good sometimes.

I disagree (sort of). If teams withdraw--especially if several teams withdraw--then you're playing with a different list of teams than that used in the initial draw. For an ordinary tournament that might be fine, but for the state championship, with national championship berths in the balance....there arguably should be a clean start. Luck always plays a part, but where luck can be neutralized, it should be.

I would say they should definitely redraw if any team figures to get two byes because of withdrawals (like, for instance, if Nemesis and Jynx both withdrew, Renegades would advance twice without having played a game).

Right, but one reasonably relates to the determination of which teams deserve to win a national championship berth, and the other doesn't. Playing two games takes effort, takes a toll, and includes a risk of loss. The two are not analagous.

There are what, 39 teams or so? The brackets are set up to best accommodate that number, not several teams fewer.

I do agree that a redraw has its own set of problems, which is why I only "sort of" think that a redraw is appropriate unless numerous teams withdraw or unless a team is disproportionately advantaged by the withdrawals.

I suppose we're putting the cart before the horse anyway, since I haven't heard confirmation that any teams are withdrawing yet.

All good points but I guess we'll just have to wait until Friday morning when ASA gets the ball rolling and sends out the schedule.

I heard they are having Friday night games, starting at 6 pm ouch...friday traffic to Hemet!!

Hopefully ASA will have it out sooner then Friday!! LOL
