When do you expect to get your new team budget ?

1. Team dues are a pimple on the ass of what I spend on softball;

2. The value I get for those dues is ridiculous. Jerseys, bag, helmet, a buttload of tourneys and college exposure, tons of high-level practice, and coaching by a small army of grown men who have inexplicably made my daughter's progress and future their personal business.

3. If I could imagine a way that those men could swing a profit on what we pay and otherwise raise, I would absolutely be thrilled to hear it.

4. Anyone who thinks that the source of the manager's mortgage payment is an important consideration, as opposed to whether they personally are getting a good return on what they personally pay, is at best not thinking very clearly, and at worst is a moron. Like BenAround.

Actually, "it's a pain in the ass" beats the living crap out of "it's a rule" in the justification department. Reason vs. rule is a distinction that people on the right-hand side of the bell curve understand.

But in this case the distinction is irrelevant, because your question is retarded in the first place. The important question to participants here isn't whether teams should provide a budget. It's how to respond to the practical fact that most teams do not. You seem to think we should form picket lines and write our congressmen, but you haven't provided the slightest justification for why that would serve anyone's best interest--or for why it even matters whether some coaches might be pocketing some funds.

So last chance, my simpleminded friend: other than some abstract notion of cosmic justice (the premise of which is entirely debatable, given the amount of hours that coaches generally commit), please explain why and in what way the contents of a team budget should impact individual decision-making.

The way I see it, the team won't provide a budget because the coach is thinking to himself.... hmmmm, If I can do this for another ten years then that $25 - $30 dollars a month that are left over after all the friendlies and tournaments, team web site fees, orginational fees, that extra dozen softballs he bought to replace the battered practice balls and all the little nickle dime BS that is handled behind the scenes, he will have made a profit of a whopping $3,000 over that 10 year period.
I'm completely happy to donate that amount to a great coach who gives of himself to try to make my DD a better player and person through the game of softball. I seriously doubt it's that much left over either. Get over it Bendover er, I mean Benaround.

I don have any expectation of receiving a budget, nor do I feel the need to ask. Since I can handle basic addition and subtraction, and know where the keys are on the calculator to multiply the monthly dues amount by a number less than 13, I dont see the need.

Why do most not ask? Because they know that it probably wont balance and the coach(es) have made up the difference.

I have had one parent ask about the budget. They wanted to know if they needed to contribute more to cover the costs.

Why do you feel that its important to get one?

You posted your opinion, and obviously, the majority of replies disagree.
Get over it.

You're what coaches like to call a "sideline assassin".
Never happy, always looking for the negative on a team.
A huge distraction on any team your daughter plays for.
And an even bigger pain in the ass for the coaches.
I'm sure your daughter is thrilled when you go into your sideline act on her teams.

The funny thing is, whenever someone disagrees with you, you look at that as a victory, because you managed to piss someone else off...
