CATCH OR HOMERUN....Let it begin

What's on your mind?

The WCWS WAS 200 down the line (This year; 190 last year), 220 to center. The World Cup of Softball was 220 all around. Both tournaments are played exclusively in HOF stadium, not on the other 3 fields.

I am not absolutely POSITIVE the permanent fences are 300, but they are definitely close. The Canada / USA Elite Men's SP game was played on the field, and televised during the World Cup. They announced fences at 300 for that game, and having played in the stadium at Gold Nationals, it LOOKS 300 to me. And I'm pretty sure I paced it off last time we played there, but I just don't remember for sure. If it isn't 300, it is close.

I spent some time looking into this. You're quite right that the permanent fences are 300' at HOF. I mistook the front part of the outfield stands as the permanent fence. In fact, the outfield stands are temporary and were placed *inside* the permanent fence. I agree with your description of the temporary fences used at the WCWS; they look formidable compared to the four foot PVC pipe fence.

Thanks for the facts on Cal fields - must admit a little surprised. We have lots of duel use fields as well - but in the KC area alone there are several multi field complexes specific to FP - including one in my opinion that could hold national level tourneys.

I may have my memory incorrect - but wasn't it in OKC where somebody went face first into the fence chasing a ball a few years back? Did not seem as if that fence was very temporary.

Not advocating more face first fence contact for the record 8-)

I do appreciate the comments from the ump - was an official for years in baseball and there is not much worse in sports (playing, coaching or officiating) that feels worse than missing a big play. I know by experience.

Overall very impressed with the entire Premier thing - I hope they expand it to include other parts of the country as it grows.

Would you be singing a different tune if the Texas team won?

Actually because of a bonehead call by Blue then So Cal Athletics and Tx Impact should be called CO-Champions. Neither team won the game period.

This is true they won ASA Gold. What is your point?

Maybe the point is that East Cobb won the second most prestigious National Championship this year

Name calling is always a good comback there spazboy! Cali can't stand not winning gold in 2010. Get over it, you didn't win squat this year! Try harder next year.

GCG
So if we are calling out bonehead umpires and reverse the calls (like the out call at home plate) then SCA wins 3-2
