Are you willing-it to happen or believe it? I'm not saying you are wrong, but there are slim pickings in 16U around here.

Are you from DFW, Centex, or Houston? Guesstimate the number of really good 16U teams in your area (asking for #, not necessarily names).

Wow! I posted this almost a year ago. The truth is that most all the D-1 schools are recruiting earlier than years past. Most all these D-1 schools will be at 16u Nationals. Some D-1 representation will be at Gold Nationals mostly the D-1 assistants. 16u Nationals brings out the D-1 head coaches in droves. Alot of people are told that if you are not a Gold player by the ninth or tenth grade they are missing out. This is absolutely not the truth. This was not true in years past, but now 16 ASA Nationals is the very best college recruiting anywhere, period.

I agree with almost everything you say except for one part of it......if you are a really good player playing on a average 16u team that does not end up qualifying for nationals you are hurting yourself IMHO because I rarely see college coaches scouting any 16u qualifiers whereas at Gold Qualifiers - even if you are on an average team - I see many many college coaches.

So, again, IMHO playing 16u as a 9th or 10th grader you could be missing the boat because you are putting all of your eggs in one basket so to speak - which is the one weekend at 16u nationals.

I saw several scouts at the 16u qualifier in Fort Worth.

We went to all qualifiers, including the HOF Q in Temple and the HOF. The only weekend we haven't see college coaches was the weekend of our Metro (no suprise there).

Some of the contacts our team made with some of the schools that weekend last fall in AZ have kept in touch all year.

I can also vouch for the coaches that were at the HOF qualifier in Temple, TX, as well as the qualifier in Ft. Worth! Heck we even had 2 at the 4 team Dallas metros. Regardless of the org., players and parents have to do their part as well! Honcho Out!
