Website for last gold qualifer for Region 7 in Beaumont

by twinsmom » Sun Jul 18, 2010 10:12 pm

I disagree that our girls were handed anything. Our older girls have been in the game that would have qualified them several times. Use the results from San Antonio and give back the 6 berths and they would have received one of those berths anyhow. All this in a season where the vast majority of the girls played in the state championships, and then straight through to gold qualifier three days later where they came up one game short (and were short a player or two due to illness as I understand).

Congrats to the girls and the coaches. Your little sister teams were all posting updates to each other via text and telephone calls at tournaments and friendlies today and were thrilled to hear you were through. Keep up the work in Georgia.

My original question still stands, any word on the other two teams? Just curious.

Hit Away
Bombers
Travelers (Huddleston)

Are the teams that got the 3 berths out of Beaumont. The playing conditions where terrible, it was tough on the players, parents, coaches, umpires and the tournament officials. Congrats and good luck to all of the teams that qualified for Nationals this summer. There where 8 teams still in the winners bracket when the rain finally took over. Those 3 teams had given up the least amount of runs in the previous games.

I am optimistic that Texas ASA can look at what has happened this year and make some positive changes to the qualifying process next year. It would be a step in the right direction if the coaches had a voice and could give their opinions to improve the process.

Isn't that what we've been saying every year for the last ten?

They all say that they are in this for the kids, and while many kids do benefit from all of the exposure and competition, there is a completely different agenda for those that are actually in control of the situation. At least thats the way it is in Texas.

Well at least it's nice to see you coming over to my way of thinking...

The lack of planning for this tournament was a joke. I grew up in Southeast Texas. When you plan an event you plan on rain for the area. Not to have a better back up plan for rain besides lets just cancel the losers bracket is disgusting. Hmmm i wonder if ASA will be sending out refund checks??? Didn't think so. Who ever was in charge of this tournament should be ashamed of themselves. I hope Premire gets it together and gives us all a better option for next year.

I truly believe - especially after a summer of gold tournaments - that Premier is the future of high level softball. Sure, ASA will always be around because they have been around forever but Premier is only going to get bigger and better in my opinion and while some may believe that the invited teams are "network" teams everyone has to admit those teams are as tough as anyone around. They might not be better than everyone else but if they aren't they are certainly as good as anyone. People flock to the winners - college coaches included - and where the winners and the college coaches go - so will the others.

You know what, you may be right. I understand why they chose the teams that they chose to give automatic bids to this first year. And I also agree that most of those teams are the best teams year in, year out. But I think that the only way to make it a true championship is to make everyone go out and qualify. The qualification process would also eliminate some teams that may get in if the top teams aren't at the qualifiers in the first place.

This isn't a complaint as someone had stated in an earlier post, its just my opinion. That if they can get some of those issues that I had mentioned before worked out then they are going to become what they want to become, and ASA will become a watered down product. But there are also many of the teams and some of the people behind the scenes that are playing both sides of the fence, and that gives the perception to me at least that there is more to all of this than simply getting the best teams together and playing for a championship. Which maybe I'm just too naive but I think that is why we should all be playing the game.

Might have been nice to know upfront that the "tiebreaker" for a berth to ASA Gold Nationals was going to be runs allowed. Might not have thrown your third pitcher against the team you were going to kill anyway! Seriously, this whole thing was a joke and ASA should be ashamed.

The Bombers absolutely deserve and earned their berth over this summer. But really? The Hitaway and Traveler's Huddleston? Neither team has come anywhere near qualifying in any other qualifier. They were nowhere near qualifying in this one either. The Hitaway were getting slaughtered by the Lady Stros when the rain came Sunday, but that suddenly doesn't matter to the tournament director.

An embarrassment to Texas ASA!

1-0 is a slaughter? Doesn't leave much room for you to have a definition for a close game.

The tie-breaking' procedures and criteria for any A.S.A. Championship play tournament hasn't' significantly change in over 30 years. Like the rule book, maybe next time before entering your team in Championship play you should download the ASA Code which is available online. Your answer is there.

article 510 sec 02 clearly states the criteria in order of determining placement of an incomplete tournament.

While its unfortunate for any tournament to have to be shortened due to weather, it does happen, and A.S.A. has rules to address this consistently and across the board.
