OKC Gold Qualifier 7-9-10 weekend

by Shegotallofthat » Wed Jul 14, 2010 10:30 am

I have a question about this tournament. How were 2 teams that qualified for Gold Nationals the week before able to play in this tournament? OK Force made it to the final 2 in the winners bracket and OK Exclusive was one of the final 4 in the losers bracket before they both forfeited their final games. What is the rule here? Doesnt seem fair to the teams still trying to qualify.
Just curious

Well again! Seems to me that ASA is not doing thier jobs. The teams that had qualified the week before should not have been allowed to enter the tournament at all. Now you have teams that will not get a chance to make the gold nationls......

Not agreeing with it, but actually in Gold there has never been a rule against Qualified teams playing in the National Qualifier; there is a Rule against them playing in Territory Qualifiers and Regional Qualifiers. This has happened several times before at the OKC Qualifier. In the "A" Classification this happens all the time, Qualified teams play every qualifier somtimes for the competition and just pass the berth down if they win. It also happens at OKC HoF Tournaments every year.

Jeff i agree the letter of the rule is not in ASA but it should be. Other other issue is the rules for Ok City about forfeits. I know your going to say the forfeits took place at the end. But who knows what would of happened if these teams had played it out. Mustangs and Fusion might not have been last two.
12. FORFEITING GAMES
Please be advised that if you forfeit a game (or games) in the tournament, you could be
subject to ASA Code Article 505 A. 08., Acts of Disqualification, and ASA Code Article 505
D. Disqualification Procedures (Tournament Play). Per Article 505 D. 03. Disqualification:
“A team that is disqualified under this rule [505 A.] … shall forfeit the game being played or
the game last played and shall be disqualified from further play in the tournament and in any
subsequent tournament for which it may have qualified by virtue of its play in the tournament
in which it was disqualified and shall be placed last in the finish order“ (thus, losing any berth
to the National Championship Finals earned at the Hall of Fame Tournament).
