IL Wasco Diamonds qualified in the early Spring season and finished 7th @ Sparkler this past week and should fair well in Moline! Good girls who are well coached!

30 teams from the bankrupt state of California? WTF!!!??? Holy Lindsey Lohan!!! I mean... I know they invented fastpitch... but 30 teams? ... and the next closest is 10 teams out of that powerhouse that brought us Jimmy Carter? Is ASA bending over...taking a cue from the bath houses of San Fran... grabbing the ankles...laying the ground work for a battle...in an effort to sway teams of the future away from Premier...or is Obama's education stumuli/immigration plan include rounding up all the muchachas under age 18...provide them with free healthcare, free education...and a bat, ball, and glove???

1 berth at Georgia ASA State this weekend, 1 berth at National Qualifier in Chattanooga, TN which looks to be going to a Georgia team. Georgia should wind up sending 12 to Moline.

Of the CA berths, 13 are from SoCal State Championship. While that may seem like a lot, consider what would happen if they broke up SoCal ASA and divided into Metros, as they do in many parts of the country, it would look like something like this, based on registered teams / players:

San Diego North Metro
San Deigo South Metro
San Diego Coast Metro
Orange County South Metro
Orange County North Metro
Orange County East Metro
Orange County Beach Cities Metro
Corona Metro (so many great teams, they'd probably get 2 berths)
Riverside County East Metro
Riverside County West Metro
Palm Springs / Desert Metro
Lancaster / Palmdale Metro
LA Harbor Metro (San Pedro, Long Beach, etc)
LA East Metro (Chino, etc)
LA Central Metro (Whittier, Downey, Lakewood, Cerritos, etc)
LA Beach Cities / Westside (Torrance, Santa Monica, W. LA, etc)
West San Fernando Valley Metro
East San Fernando Valley Metro
Beyond the Valley Metro (Moorpark, Simi, Thousand Oaks, Agoura, etc)
Ventura / Oxnard Metro

And I may have missed one or two entire areas.

So 13 from SoCal, compared to 20+ from various Metros... not so many, really.

PS. Don't sell short that "powerhouse that gave us Jimmy Carter"... while they may not breed great peanut-farming presidents, they sure field some awesome fastpitch teams.

All depends on the match-ups and pools.. 30 teams from California currently makes up of approx. 1/3 of the teams (I count 90 currently) entered.. All of these other regions will be in the pool with the CA teams..get a top dog, you may be going to the loser bracket early....

2009 14u Nationals - 3 teams not from CA broke into top 10, 9 were from CA in top 10
2008 14u Nationals - 4 teams not from CA broke into top 10, 8 were from CA in top 10
2007 14u National - 5 teams not from CA broke into top 10, 7 were from CA in top 10
2006 14u National - 4 teams not from CA broke into top 10, 8 were from CA in top 10


So it is safe to say that 3 or 4 non California teams will break into top 10 in Moline. Of the 30 CA teams entered, 7 or 8 of those will be in top 10 at Moline...
