Does anyone know who was in the championship games in Jasper and Indy the weekend? 16U and 18U in particular?

The 16U Premier was a round robin w/top 2 advancing to a championship game and 4 berths being handed out. The Lou. Lady Sluggers went 4-0-1 and won the round robin and were scheduled to play the Hudson Valley Hurricanes in the championship. The Hurricanes chose to make the long trip back to NY early since they earned their berth and no championship game was played. This was finals week for the girls on the Hurricanes, so they wanted to get back at a relatively decent hour in the morning to get the girls to school.

crystal...checked out the link you posted and noticed the Shockwaves forfeited the championship game. Any particular reason?

Sorry I missed you at the Premier tourney. I noticed someone behind the dugout but didn't recognize you until my daughter told me that she talked to you. We almost had to bring in Morgan if we had to play on Sunday. Kaitlyn is trying your idea for her finger. Of course, we have to make fun of her. We also got an idea from Alabama's coach. We are going to get the stuff tomorrow. We will tell you about it this weekend.

Looking forward to this weekend. It should be fun at the North-South game.

In both the 16A and 18A, teams in the championship games in both divisions decided to forego the final game due to the fact that berths had already been determined and also due to the extreme heat.

Berths were awarded as follows:

16A - National Qualifier Berth - Indy Dreams
Registration Berth - Indiana Shockwaves '93

18A - Regional Qualifier Berth - Stone City Sharks
Registration Berth - Indy Crush

So what is the difference between a "National Qualifier Berth" and a "Registration Berth"?

To simplify as best as I can, there are several different ways to qualify for the USA/ASA National Championship Finals in ASA. Generally, in Indiana, you are playing for a Local Association berth (registration berth), a Regional Qualifier berth, or a National Qualifier berth.

The Local Association berths are based on the total number of youth teams registered the previous year. Typically in Indiana we have between 2-4 of these available each summer for each classification, depending on how many registrations we received the previous year. Teams must be registered with Indiana ASA to be eligible for these berths.

There are 2 Regional Qualifier berths available to our region each summer per classification. These are on a rotation from year to year among the associations in the region (Illinois, Chicago, Indiana, and Kentucky ASA). In 2010, Indiana is able to award one of the 10A, 12A, and 18A Regional berths. Teams must be registered with one of the associations in our region to be eligible for one of these berths.

There is 1 National Qualifier berth available to our region each summer per classification. Like the Regional berths, these are rotated throughout the region associations on a year-to-year basis. For 2010, Indiana has the 16A National berth. Teams may be registered with any ASA association throughout the country to be eligible for these berths.

So, when a tournament is listed with a Regional or National qualifier designation on our tournament list, there are 2 berths available to be awarded in that particular classification in that tournament. These are awarded with the National or Regional berth going to the tournament winner and the Local Association berth going to the next highest finishing Indiana team.

All I know is just about every girl I've coached has played in a "National Tournament" of sorts...allegedly!! Thanks for the explanation, but it still makes no sense to me.

The folks that get to make the rules generally aren't the ones who have to try to interpret them.

I still get confused and I've played ASA for about 25 years and worked for ASA for about 8 years now
