7, damn, there will be a lot of broke parents. If I were the #5 through #7 teams I'd save my money. :D

I'm sorry, but that many berths takes away some of the significance of earning your berth to nationals. They need to figure out a better way than to just hand that many out in one shot. Gosh I remember the battles it took to get one of those 3 berths and the big deal it was to finish in the top 2 at nationals so you didn't have to go through those battles at state.

Has anyone completed the ACE process for the current year? I have received our ASA cards for our players and coaches, and I thought ACE was no longer required, but the in the email we got from ASA So Cal yesterday, its seems like its required again. If anyone has completed it, how did you go about doing it? Thanks in advance,

If you win a birth you're EXPECTED by ASA to go to Tennessee ($$$) and participate. If you don't the coach and manager can be banned from ASA next year and your team may not be able to participate in ASA events. Not sure that's a good position for ASA to take?!?

This is from an e-mail sent to all coaches participating in states, don't think they are going to ban coaches.

6. Please talk with your parents prior to the State tournament about continuing on with championship play. I would hope any team that earns a berth to Nationals will take the berth and represent So Cal! You will have 72 hours at the completion of the State Tournament to submit (to me) your Tournament Entry Form and fee to either, Regional, Nationals, or Western Nationals, or all your players will be released and become eligible to be pick-up players

I think this is great. The number of berths is a function of # of players registered with the local association. Three more berths over last year means around 1500 more 10U players in the SoCal ASA were registered over last year. Which means to me softball is growing in the younger age groups. Eventually that will correlate to more travel teams which even we saw this year. At one point there were 20-30 10U travel teams and now we're seeing around 18 - 20 active ones now. Last year there were around 10-12 truly active 10U teams and this year we're seeing around 3-4 more teams entering the State tournament. I am glad to see this sport grow.
