Okay, What to do??? Should I say something to the coach?

High School coach just told my kid that she will be spliting the pitching rotation next year with an up coming freshman. It's not that my DD is bad she's not, several schools are looking at her, pushing nearly 300k's at the 5A level. My DD is freaking..... I told her(My DD), Let's just make it through the Playoffs and move on. But she won't leave it alone. An doesn't know how to approach the coach about it. So, should I say something to the HS coach? and what?

i would not say anything yet. A lot can happen before next year. I do not know why a coach would make a statement about next year at this time. You should have more cred with the coach being a current player; You do not even know if the coach will be back; Encourage your dd to stay sharp and do not sweat it. She will be fine and as a team leader she will gain more respect through perseverance athen anything else. Look at the cowboys draft a reveiver and two of the current receivers are asking for a trade the next day;; Lot could happen before the situation actually materializes. There is always an upside as well. She will get used in the important times. A coach needs to have talent developing to fill the huge hole she is going to leave when she goes to the next level. This is a way of giving back to the program. Hope this helps broaden your perspective of the situation;

Competition is good. If she wants her time...she needs to earn. She and her team will be better for it.

Zip the lip, go to work, show up next spring and prove your worth.

What year is she? I know it's only high school ball, but she'll be splitting time in college as well... unless you have a Danielle Lawrie on your hands.

Might be the coach's way to let you know not to take the summer off. If she knows there is heat behind her, she will stay prepared. Then again, we have girls at our HS that only play HS ball and wonder why they don't start.

Why would YOU do anything?
Sounds to me like the coach has just challenged your daughter to step it up a notch.
How long did she expect to be the one and only pitcher on the team? Your daughter may be great...but when she's gone, the team and the coach need to be able to compete. Have you seen the level of play at JV lately? Were your daughter the incoming freshman, would you want her wallowing down there?
Unless she's absolutely untouchable, your daughter should have a secondary position she can play when not in the circle. Perhaps that's something SHE can do in the off season. Or a bat that can't be kept out of the lineup. If she can DP for the incoming pitcher, she's that much more valuable to any team.

Wow, Thanks for the reply and feedback,

We are new to the area and there is a ton of polictics in School ball here, as we have found out. Usually our DD's play speaks for itself, but in this case, even then, sometimes thats not enough. No matter what parents, other coaches, or even colleges think or say about what is right or wrong, It's ultimately up to that HS coach.

I will do nothing, and tell my kid to play, pratice, and Pitch her ?#% off. An who know's we might go deep in the playoffs, then it would be even harder for that coach to make that decision.

I will pray that the coach will look at the talent, leadership and the total picture of things.

Personally, a coach making that statement before playoffs is just plain stupid. Most top players are itching to get back on their gold team to compete in qualifiers and showcases. There are so many other ways to motivate a kid at this time of year.

But, I agree with the other comments. Actions outweigh anything that you or your daughter could say. Step out and dominate and the coach will eat her words. Step up the pitching, batting, and fielding and there will be no freshman in the rotation. Our highly touted freshman did not perform, even though who play on gold teams. Below the mean batting, a decent number of errors, and missed signs.

Of course, if your daughter cant get the job done, no coach high school or select should prefer her just because of age over someone who can.

I would do and say nothing. Competition is good. Likewise, I would rather my daughter not pitch 150 innings in high school ball. You may find that the new girl is not a good as advertised. Likewise, it is common for freshman to struggle in the circle. Depending on their travel ball experience, they my not be ready to carry a varsity team. In the long run, your daughter will get her share of innings.
