Substitute for DP??? - Can we do it?

Rule question? Get it answered here.

by pbj2000 » Wed Apr 21, 2010 9:40 am

Hey this may be a elementary question, but I just want to confirm that we can do it.

I have a DP that can really smash the ball. She's slow as an ox...Can I put a Sub in for her to run for her?

Yes or No?

I am batting 9 with DP and Flex rule...

Yes you can. Then the next time she comes up in the batting order, you can re-enter her into her original batting position. then when she gets on base, you could remove her again, and re-enter that same runner that ran for her the first time.

just know that the original DP will now be DONE for the game.

Thanks I knew that after that she couldn't come back. My sub is a decent at bat, but I just wanted to make sure I could do it.

Of course I could be in a bind if it's a close game and I need a big bat...if it's close I wouldn't sub her on the base....but here's an idea. Could I use the Flex to run for her (the 2nd time)? That doesn't count as a sub does it? This way I can keep her in the game but have a faster runner?

Please advise.

You can use the flx to run for her, but if your DP comes out of the game on offense, that is a substitution just like if you used a bench player to run for her. makes no difference.

In the scenario i described above... your DP can leave the game once and re-enter. If she leaves again she is done.... makes no difference if it is the flx or someone else that comes in for her.

You just need to make sure it makes sense to run for her.

3rd inning, she gets on first with 2 outs... might not make any sense to do it then.

6th inning game is tied, she gets on 1st with no outs...... no brainer, it is time to run for her:)

Correct...I luv blu

hey can I sub for Flex? I have a killer pitcher who can't hit a lick..but she takes a while to get warmed up. I don't want to use my DP because she's ok on the bat, but not pulling weight on the defense. Can I sub my sub for my flx and have that new flx pitch? or do the DP and the Flx have to stay the same people all day?

Also my sub can come in any number of times for different players right? Or only twice...meaning my sub comes in and takes 1st base, then subs out, then subs in at 2nd base, then subs out...is she allowed one more reentry? or is she done?

She is done - only one re-entry.

The link below is to a powerpoint slide set (the one titled line up management) that is very handy in understanding substitutions and the DP/Flex. Although geared to umpires you might find it useful.

NO. Lets say my Rf(Batting 7th) is subbed for in the third by susie. Then the RF re-enters and susie goes back to the bench. Susie can come back into the game, but ONLY for the same position in the lineup(7th batter) she originally subbed for. She can leave the game one time, if she leaves a second time, she is done.

Or only twice...meaning my sub comes in and takes 1st base, then subs out, then subs in at 2nd base, then subs out...is she allowed one more reentry? or is she done?

Dont think about the defensive position on the field the kid is playing... that makes no difference. the only thing that umpire is going to look at is which spot in the lineuop that kid is going to bat. So when you sub, dont say she subs at 1st base, in reality she is subbing for a spot on the batting order (unless it is the flx)

Every player can leave the game 1 time and re-enter. After they re-enter, if you remove them again, they are out for the remainder of the game.

Thanks for the clarification...so my sub can sub in for batter 2, sub out and sub back in for batter 4? Or is my sub tied to batter 2 only?
