From an umpire that sees a lot of games in South Texas:

The Peppers are the team to beat in South Texas. Their pitchers are both the "real deal"!! I would put their lead off hitter in a race against any other 14 year old in the COUNTRY home to first. She is CRAZY fast. The rest of the team is solid everywhere. Nothing else "flashy" but they don't make many mistakes.

The Tazers are solid. They are mostly a '93 team and play good solid softball. Coach is kind of an a-hole, but he puts a quality product on the field. They hit the ball really well and if you make a mistake, they will beat your brains in! Leadoff batter/SS one of the best players in the area. They do not stand out in any area, but they do not make a lot of mistakes.

The Hawks are a new team, but they do a lot of stuff pretty well. I assure you, they do not have a pitcher that throws 60. I saw them all this weekend and they are solid and throw strikes and let the defense work for them, but there was no one throwing 60. Their outfield can flat go get it. I saw three diving catches in ONE game from them, and then a few GREAT relay throws for outs on the bases. Catcher is a firecracker and full of spunk. She is a lot of fun to work behind. VERY aggressive team.

Bomb Squad showed me a lot this weekend. They played some good softball. They didn't do anything remarkably, they just "got it done" when they had to. Timely hitting and mistake free defense for the most part. Ran out of gas against the Peppers in the championship game, but they never gave up. Their SS was the best I saw in the tournament. Very heads up little player. Saw her get a force out with a flip to 2B from her glove on a ball hit behind 2B.

I have not really seen a lot of other teams that are worth talking about from South Texas. The Peppers are the strongest pitching team I have seen down here. There are some games that they can "coast" and still win. The Tazers, Hawks and Bomb Squad are not going to blow anyone away with their pitching, they have to rely more on their defense.

Of the teams we have played and the results of head to head that I'm aware of: Just my opinion of "some" Houston area teams + Tx Glory!

Texas Peppers - have won RM (twice I think) - Finished 2nd, then 1st at CO Fireworks, qualified for HOF - Finished 2nd at HOF - Qualified for ASA Nat's each year, at least a top 17 (or better)finish each year! They find ways to WIN in big time games! Our record 0-? -v- Peppers, we've played alot.......just can't seem to get over the hump!

Texas Glory (Elliot) - Beat us in CO Fireworks 3-1, lost to Texas Peppers in final - very good team (Enjoyed hanging out with them after hours) Our record 0-1 -v- Glory

SK Tazers - usually take turns winning against Peppers, however, have not played on the BIG stage as far as I'm concerned.......very good team.....just needs to step up the quality tourn they play to get the respect they deserve! Our record 0-2 -v- Tazers

MC Magic - Solid team, ASA State Champions, ASA nationals several times, decent showing (finished 5th at 10U) Very scrappy! Our record (50-50) not sure - we've played so many time!

Texas Ice - Solid team, just not sure they take their talents to big enough tourn to get recognition! Our record 3-0 -v- Ice

Texas Hawks - another solid team, fairly new, they just keep getting better! Our record 1-0 -vs- hawks

High Voltage - Good team, haven't seen them in a while, with a few adjustments they might just be there. Our record 1-0 -v- HV

Houston Power - Good team, played them this past weekend, good competition! Our record 3-0 -v- Power

I'm sure I've left some good teams off, these are just the ones that come to mind FIRST, when asked who I think the best teams in our area are!

Looks like 94 Glory (Drummond) just got stronger!!!! I saw that they recently added the '95 catcher and top '94 pitcher from Batbusters (Montoya).

Everyone better get their rosters set soon..... HOF qualifier is at the end of the month.

Re: Best 14U Texas Teams
Not much talk about the 94 Bombers. They beat a few of these teams, recently.

Not much talk about the 94 Bombers because they have done much worth talking about. We saw them play in Del Valle a few weeks back and really were disappointed. The Bombers organization has always turned out exceptional teams and this team was like the runt of the litter.

Isn't this the "top '94 pitcher" for the BB (Montoya) who got pounded in 14u this spring and set all these player moves in motion? The '94 Glory already had two excellent catchers so don't look for the '95 behind the plate. Wonder why Drummond thought he needed a pitcher to go with the big redhead and his own daughter?

Travel Ball, you must be confused about the pitcher that left BB (Montoya). The girl that went to Glory is arguably one of the best 94 pitchers in the metroplex.

Duh!!!!!!!! To make promises that they can't keep and to make sure that other teams don't get them!!!!! The pitcher that went to 94 Glory is definately one of the best in the metroplex and the '95 catcher is also one of the best.

It will be interesting to see how he handles the talent and egos. I don't see any of his pitchers or catchers happy about sitting on the bench to long.

FYI- 94 Glory now has 4 pitchers: The redhead, Drummonds daughter, the B.B. girl, and a '95 that use to play for the Monarchs.

I don't see the '95 pitcher getting any mound time at all; she is ok but nothing compared to the others. I actually haven't seen her pitch at all this spring but then again, I haven't seen all of their games.

Gonna be interesting!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
