Rules in Playing up To Varsity/Down to JV

Let me try and clear this up. Post season games do not count for the total number of games.

Here are some scenarios to consider:

Scenario #1

22 individual games
6 max in Owensboro "tourney" (guaranteed 4, max 6)
4 max in Marion County tourney

Total = 32 games (before post season)

I would count the Owensboro trip as our tourney and the other 26 games as regular season games.
Scenario #2

22 individual games
4 minimum in Owensboro
4 max in Marion Cty tourney

This scenario is perfect. 26 regular games plus one tournament.

You could count either tourney as a regular season game.

Here is a tricky Scenario #3

22 individual games
6 max in Owensboro
1 game in Marion Cty tourney

This scenario I would count the Owensboro trip as our tourney. So, we played 23 games (which includes 1 Marion county tourney loss) and 6 in Owensboro. Basically, 23 regular season games and 1 tournament which equals 29 games before post season.

So the short answer to all of this is, no it is not easily monitored. I honestly don't care...it comes down to the coach's reputation then, right? Plus, with most JV and V games being played at the same time this probably doesn't even come up much.

Has anyone been turned in for too many games??

My question would be what would the penalty be at a JV level? We don't have a year end JV state tourney in MN and no one tracks wins and losses (except the players).

At the varsity level violations mean forfeiting games played in the excess which ususally end up being conference games which affects your seeding into the state tourney.

We have no limits on JV or JV in combintaion with Varsity games in MN, but we limit varsity contests to 20 and we don't get to count a tourney as one contest, each game counts as a contest. We can scrimmage more, as long as you don't keep score, wear uniform, or keep stats.

If the schedules allowed a kid here could play 20 games JV and 20 varsity and it isn't that uncommon for the kids that are subs for Varsity to play JV as starters.

Just wondering... dd is a Freshman. She's been asked by Varsity coach to play up with them in the Pendleton Heights Classic on Saturday. Do you all know if there are rules for playing back and forth between JV and Varsity? I know I play USTA tennis and in league play if you play up a certain number of times you are rostered on the higher team. Is there such a rule for HS ball? Can they just switch back and forth any time they want? Coach has taken a few girls from JV already (some are just riding the pine though). Any help on the rules would be appreciated.

Did DD played in the Pendleton tourney? How was the experience and did you see much there. They usually have good teams in that one.

Ditto that, I would love to hear your take on the Pendleton Tournament. It is my understanding that Jennings County won. Beat Pendleton, Chesterton, ???, and Anderson Highland to win it. I would love the hear more about it. I heard Leah Kemerer pitched a whale of a game in the game against Highland. Congrats to Leah, having undergone elbow surgery and sitting out her sophomore year. I got to see her throw a little over the winter, she still didn't look like she was back to where she was as a freshman.

We played against DeKalb 1st game. Due to some errors on our part lost by 2. They were decent. DD was put in with runners on 2 and 3 with 2 outs - no pressure (LOL) - flew out. Next game was Adams HS I believe. They seemed pretty inexperienced and we won handily. DD threw out a runner on third and hit a double. Last game we played Pendleton and won I believe 16-8 (something like that). DD DH'd and hit a triple and double. She was asked to play w/Varsity 2night in one of our conference games We played at Pendleton Park, which was nice. They had working scoreboards, concessions and announcers - always a plus. Games were at 11am, 1pm and 7pm but then we had a 3-hr. ride home. It was nice to play full complete games and had great weather!
