Colleges often over recruit the pitching position as you will soon find out. Little Susie that pitches her entire travel career and recruited to "University" also may have 3-4 others to battle against. University Coach forgot to mention she had 2 other pitchers coming on scholarship but does know "Julie" from same recruit class also plays a mean inf and swings it. If Julie doesn't cut it on the mound, Coach renews her scholarship and tells her I have a spot for you in the field. It happens all the time. One gets beat out by another.
Bama found a place for Charlotte Morgan when Kelsi Dunne and Amanda Locke came along. Charlotte Morgan was their next saving grace.... Well, that was till the next year till Dunne came in.
My experience (I have one DD playing NAIA and one D1), Pitchers-you better hone your craft to a perfection because College coaches are only your friend during the recruiting process. They will kick you to the curb if someone else comes along that has better stuff than yours. Coaches have a job to do and their job is to build winning programs.
What have you left if you don't play another position?
BTW, I have had coaches ask me about Hailee Chambers(pitcher) base times, batting averages and is being recruited as a Utility Pitcher by many big program schools. IMO thats her best fit.
To answer your question regarding my DD and other positions... My DD currently throws every other game and doesn't currently hit. She does however work with fielding 1B and hitting practices and conditionings (not mandatory) just in case "Julie and Susie"
comes in next year.OH and hey!!! What about the catchers? Why are they always left out of the conversation?
