The Allen tourney was interesting to watch. I don't know who won the championship game yet, but Pool B was Glory 97 and Glory Mendez 1 and 2 and Pool A was Glory Poole and OK Finish 1 and 2.
General impressions:
Pool A was tough. Except for may be one or two of the teams, anyone could have beaten anyone. A play here or there made a huge difference. It was weird, one team that had beaten Glory would lose to a team that Glory beat. Another would crush one team and then lose to one that the victim of the pummeling had beaten. Glory Poole and OK Finish were just a step above and able to make the plays when needed. They had the most consistent pitching, but more than anything they had the most disciplined hitting and were able to manufacture runs when needed. They were also able to capitalize on mistakes made by their opponents. We and a couple of hundred others saw the OK Finish come back from a 6-0 deficit to American Freedom yesterday. It was pretty impressive, but I give credit to the AF for making it a game.
We didn't get to see as much of Pool B, but a couple of the teams were obviously developing. It got really ugly at times. The Glory teams were just too much for the rest of the teams to handle. Pitching, hitting, fielding were very solid. I felt really sorry for a couple of the teams that faced them.
Out of the 16 teams there, I would say about 3 or 4 had a lot of work to do and would probably be considered B teams. They each typically had a couple of solid players but a lot of girls who have a long way to go. Glory teams plus the OK Finish were just solid, top to bottom and had their stuff together. The competition among almost everyone else was tough. It will be interesting to see how they develop over the season.
