Who are the 16u teams to watch this Summer in Texas?

by Lefty's Dad » Thu Jan 21, 2010 11:07 am

[quote="Bleacher CreatureThey were included. Unless you were referring to the Storm Demerini bunch? I would like to add the Rebels (last yr Jets) to the S. Tex list, they picked up a few new faces that should help them along. Now that the HC is getting his Prozac daily , all should be good! ;) Lefty that was a joke! see the winky guy![/quote]
Surely he was talking about Storm Elite like I was. Demarini didn't do so hot last Fall from what I heard. Plus they lost a very good player 8-). Thanks for the vote of confidence there BC, we hope to continue what we started last Fall. You never know what's gonna happen but we feel confident. I saw the winky guy :P
My daughter is perfect, she knows everything. Just ask her.

14u dallas Dbat did not win crap. The team that won 14u dallas in 09 was Glory adkins. Dbat 14u was just formed last fall and they have only one sub from that team. please get your facts straight.

Your right about Mongillo. But i would not take floyd out of the list. The only reason I did not mention Fusion 16U is they did didn't really do much last year and have lost to many good girls to Gold or other teams.
I would like to know your thought on removing Freedom and Xtreme though. Thought they had pretty good core. Might have added other girls or removed some girls.

LoneStarGreed, you have something against the Texas Blaze? Calling the 16U coach Prinzo a "nut" and the organization is "crumbling" is a little harsh. We dont like to draw Prinzo in our bracket because he seems to squeeze wins out of nowhere. He is a little animated, but his players perform. Last time I looked the top team had 4-5 Division 1 signed players and the two top teams went to ASA A. Only the Bombers have done as well in Central and South Texas.

I agree it is way to early to know where the high school players will end up on these teams. Will Georgia Gold and Premiere California impact the team choices? Looks as if there are more chances to qualify for Gold. But 16U College Station is very tempting because it is so close and it will be so HOT.

just for the record, The big lefty, Paige, did NOT travel with us to California. I think I like being the underdog again! I really do hope people overlook us AGAIN. Obviously we and other 16U teams have to deal with HS ball first, but then it will be time for us and all the others listed to prove it on the dirt, not on these threads. Also to clarify an earlier post, Dallas Metros only had one berth to nats last year...not two! Ft. Worth had two berths. Honcho Out! :ugeek:

How about San Antonio? I saw the San Antonio Corps at the Ronald McDonald. I thought they looked good. Is there any quality 16u teams in the panhandle, or far west Texas? How about 16u teams from the valley?

San Antonio has a metro in 16U but lately, the only team playing in it is the 93 Bombers Black coached by Chuck. They got the bid to Sioux Falls that way and did well. But there are other 16U teams and players in SA, but they tend to play up or not at all in ASA competition. That may change given the Nationals is in College Station. We may get teams from the Hitt or Nightmare or Ice or Corp to actually challenge the Bombers Black. The Rage is a very strong team out of Kingsville and they came in second at State. No one should overlook them as they have played together for years. There was a great South Texas team, I think called Hot Stuff?? but those kids tend to play up and some of them with the Bombers Gold.

I can say that calling him a nut is a little on the harsh side. The coach does act crazy on the field and upstage the kids at times, but he does produce a good team. He is not for me, but some like it.

The crumbling could not be more true. The head guy runs his mouth to get things done. He is stealing kids from teams, and losing respect from the softball community by the week all to make more money. The top team, has been to ASA Gold.....WITH OTHER TEAMS TOP PLAYERS. Stealing from the Austin Storm, Texas Stix, and Austin Stars have got him to the dance, but just not dancing that long.

Alot of his players and parents have seen the writing on the wall and they are leaving in groups. How many players bailed out and joined the Platinum and/or other teams. Organizations are built of trust ans honesty, not money and greed.

I dont know the specifics of the players you are talking about. But

1. In amateur sports, you can't buy players with money. Performance talks. No player would go to the Impact Gold second team unless that organization was successful in playing fundamental softball, in winning, going to ASA A and Gold, getting coaches to watch, and getting players scholarships.

2. I have NEVER seen a player leave an organization that they are happy with. Too many friends, experiences, etc to make it worth while. There is always a story on why a player leaves.

3. In Central and South Texas, the teams you mention have few top college commitments in the last 3-4 years. They all have decent coaches but for some reason the successes are far and few between. Austin Stars stayed at 16U for two years and the coaches kids play on the field. A player has so little time at 16U and 18U to make an impact to get seen -- probably 18 months. I cannot blame anyone for going to an organization that will be playing at ASA A and Gold. Those are the teams that get premium fields in exposure tournaments and who have colleges looking at their game play.

We will all see the Bombers success last year will translate into alot of Centex and San Antonio kids leaving (in your words, being stolen) to play for the top 3 teams this summer. And, the college coaches love the Bombers players and their hunger to win.

You can think what you want and re-word anything, but facts are the facts.

The Impact would not entertain a player joining their organization in the middle of the season. They only look at kids for one weekend at tryouts after nationals. Slimp will beg, borrow and steal at anytime to get players. His organization is about money and how much can be made. Please do not compare the Impact and Blaze.

The Storm and Stix have had huge success in placing kids in college. They both put kids in colleges at every level.

The Stars have not had a graduating class yet. I honestly say that they will place many if not all of their kids in college.
