Playing for team during ASA Gold classification

by winginit » Tue Jan 05, 2010 2:45 pm

If a younger player plays with a team during the upcoming ASA 18 Gold Classification tournaments (wether team classifies or not); will that affect her eligibility to play ASA championship play for a younger division?

IF the team qualifies, then she is now considered a Gold player and can not play for any other division than gold.

Can anyone else confirm this is true?

This may sound silly, but are you considered a rostered player during these classifying tournaments?

Ok, I start a post with a question and I come back on the post with the answer to my own question! I just spoke with ASA 18G Representative and he said, "the classifying tournaments are not championship play so it will not affect eligiblity at the lower levels."

:D I believe there was a thread on this last year. We were told last year it is OK in a classifier but not a qualifier.

I would double check because I do believe it depends on whether the team classifies as gold or doesn't make it.

I asked him that and he said it did not matter if the team qualified, because it is not Championship play.

FYI we had a younger play up with us last year in the Gold Q from a 16 team and we Q'd and she than went back to her 16 team. ASA had no problem with this at all.
not considered championship play per ASA

Nice. We were told not to take the chance. Not like we had anyone that was going to do that, but it is nice to hear that you can. Hope that helps the OP.
