What is your Goal as a Coach? What are you why are you investing your time in your team? What do you hope to accomplish this year or for the next five years. What is your background as a coach? Did you have another team last year or the year before that? How long have the girls on your team played for you? Where did you learn the game?

These are the questions I would ask you if my DD was looking for a team. This is the same thing I would hope the coach was wondering about my DD. The success you have should be measurable based on the goals you set as a Coach and a Team. Ask Cat Osterman when she decided to go to College and play softball. It is a twoway street. Both are responsible for knowing the ins and outs. If you have short sided goals you will get short sided players.

Well stated.

Hmmm. Curious, but since you think so, what the hell is a short sided goal?

And does a short sided player have one short leg and one long leg? Or mis-matchedarms, or jawbones, or... what the hell is a short sided player?? Maybe you can post a pic?
Don't worry about tomorrow. You did that yesterday.

CORNERPAINTER

The question on this post was "any suggestions on how to stop team hoppers" not how do we support team hoppers.

This starts and ends with the parents. Just as a coach should should do his job and find out the background on parents and players before they invite them to join the team parents must also investigate the coaches before they join a team so there are no suprizes on either side. No I am not a super coach I am a parent that trys to do their job so the softball experience can be as educational and as fun as possible for my dd.

I do not support team hoppers. When you commit to an organization you are commited until that fall or spring session is over so Cornerpainter and the rest of the parents start doing a good job before you commit. Let your word to an organization be good.

Cornerpainter...trying to equate a dd that is 11-15yrs old and looking for a good fit= cat ostermann looking for/and selecting her college of choice!!! What a joke...I have read alot of the past topics, threads, and posts from this guy, and he is not a very smart and/or rational thinker. I don't like the point of view that this guys represents to all parents of DD's...a comittment is a committment, cornerfainter: keep jading your scene, people will adjust theirs accordingly, I am sure that you are one of the types of parents that have been mentioned in previous posts...everyone hold a moment of silence for cornerfainter to gain some intelligence and decency...

Now that is some funny SHIT! I love it! Go 48.

But, back to the thread. I don't think that you are going to do anything about the team hopping. All you can really do is bitch about it and hope it changes but I don't think it will and honestly I don't even know if I want it to change. If the coach drops his commitment then I want the option to find something better for my dd than to have a lying coach to coach my daughter. I think she will be miserable staying with that coach and the softball life is too short to put up with that. I am going to do what I think is best for my dd and you do the same and hopefully yours and mine will be playing with or against each other in college because I want all dd's to be successful and you probably want the same. Goodluck.

The only thing everyone needs to hold on for is, Pooter to pull his head out of his Farter :o and Tex to adjust his hat band, It may be to tight  . The only thing I was telling DA Tex is that he needs to understand that his stupid idea that Parents are the cause of Team Hoppers and are the ones that lack commitment was Moronic!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :o :o :o He needs to understand that the Coaches that Are as retarded as him are also a cause of Hopping. The funny thing about these post when you go back and read the thoughts behind the topics you can develop an understanding of the people posting. Pooter you seem to have dumb a__ thoughts about a bunch of stuff but no real insight to help anyone. Tex You obviously have been hurt by parents pointing out your lack of abilities as a coach. You probably mean well but just lack the experience and know how. You probably drive a Big Truck as well ;) ;) . Ya know (Little Man Syndrome) :D :D . As far as the Team Hopping goes, I am a very loyal person who teaches my Kids that once they make a commitment they have to Stick with it. See in our Family We will Play hard when we sign up, all the way to the end, no matter how bad the stupid coach could get. This is something My Dad taught me and My kids already practice the same principle. We feel so strong about this that it could even be a fault with some of todays ideals. Your right most people aren't that loyal to their word. Look at our President :x So don't call me a hopper I am far from it. Just quit blaiming someone else for kids leaving You!!! I just want these Tex Like Coaches to understand that their Self Motivation is important in keeping Kids that want to grow and progress in the Sport. If you have so much Bitchin :( :( to do about these     parents Why the Heck are Ya Coachin???? Go some where that you can be happy. If you were as good as you think, the parents would be lining up to play for ya!!!! :o :o

What are you going to do when one of these coaches, that only thinks of winning, sits your daughter on the bench because she is not good enough to be a starter after he promises that he is all about developing the girls and you find out, after you join the team, that he is one that is really all about winning and at the same time you realize that he is also one that became a coach so his daughter gets to play because she wasn't good enough to start on the prior team that she was on while your daughter sits? What are you gonna do now? Now you are stuck and at the mercy of the lying coach.

Honor your commitment and finish the season (spring/fall - not the year) then look for a better situation for your dd when tryouts start up again. If it's really bad, pickup when you can to see if you find a better fit. Be honest with any potential coaches about your current situation, and hopefully you can find a better fit for your dd.....Seems pretty cut and dry to me.

2fat, I know what you mean; there are some silver tongue devils out there that are masters at telling parents just what they want to hear to keep a girl on the roster, then turning around and not following through with the changes they promise to implement.
Seven, I'm all about honoring commitment, but that has to be a 2-way street. At some point, smoke being blown up my a@& doesn't tickle anymore. When a parent is told there is a plan of action, then observes just the opposite over and over, it gets old. If it's just to the end of Fall season, well, okay, we'll ride it out and look around in the Spring. If staying means putting up with the same hypocrisy, double standards, and deception for 3 more months while paying to travel to multiple out of state tourneys; no way. What is the manager's argument with my DD leaving? Is she too valuable to lose? Obviously not..............

This problem will never be solved, for the simple fact that options are out there and it's in our nature to find something better. And when we have options the issue that causes to look could be very small otherwise. I have seen several age groups from our town that were very good teams, with all the families being really good friends, but yet something causes them to go seperate ways. That is the start of it all.

Parents + Their kid + Coaches + 9 defensive pos. + 1 - 9 batting order + the fac that someone has to play RF + bat last = team hopping forever!

We hope for the best and write about the rest. Besides if team hopping went away what would we talk about?

You're right and thats a shame because your town and league produce some of the very best talent in the state yet at a certain age they all have to leave and go to "other" programs who then get credit for developing them and securing scholarships for them . If the parents and the league had a little more long term vision they could have a league and a-ball program that would at least rival the best in the state .
