Just another reason why the rec leagues are disappearing.

Not much. Why do you ask?

Man you lucked out if you have this situation. It is wonderful for the girls to play against and with better players, for developing their skills. It gives the rec girls a gauge by witch they can measure themselves to see if they are ready to make the jump to travel ball.

It is hard to find any Travel players who are willing to make the step down though. The only incentive for doing so is possibly making an All Star team. Big whoop. Most girls would rather take a shot at going to "A" Nationals or TC World Series.
To each their own.

My team was playing out of a Park that required at least half of the select girls to play in thier spring league 12u and at least 1 coach had to coach league. It sounded good but it turned out not so good. The park was new and so was the board members. The select kids went through the draft and was spread out amung 5 12u teams. There was a pitcher that was hit in the chest from a select girl batting and 2 girls playing 3rd took glancing blows from shots down 3rd.The select girls started showing bad habits in thier throwing because half the girls could not catch a sharply thrown ball.I did enjoy working with the league girls and the girls I had greatly improved. The board members came up with a new select team contract due to complants from league parants. This was a small league of about 250 kids 6u to 14-17 mix. This may or may not happen in larger league settings, but this was my experience. :?
If money talks,mine says goodby!!!

I think it depends on the level of select player you're talking about. If you have a player who's not getting enough playing time on her select team, then playing some in rec especially if they play up, may be a realistic option to get those at-bats and repetitions in the field. It could also help build leadership skills and help her appreciate her select team even more.

See the post in Fastpitch Discussions about select coaches and playing time (sorry I don't know how to link)

true A ball players should not play rec, they might really hurt someone with their $350 dollar bat and a 40mph pitch

Rec. leagues should consider limiting one Select "B" player per team as much as practical to get additional field time and the Select "B" player should be used to raise the talent level of the league. The bigger question is how does one verify status of Select "B" player from a Rec. level?
