Time off

by SoCal Breakers » Tue Dec 08, 2009 11:59 am

See that there's a tournament and some friendly's this weekend and noticed all the early friendly's in Jan are teams giving these girls any time off. My DD is glad to have off till the middle of January, she dosen't even want to talk softball right now.She want's to have her weekends back.Coaches give the girls a well deserved rest and go watch some football.

I can see taking time off in December, but taking time off till the middle of January in the 18G division would not be wise. There are showcases and qualifiers.

My DD is 12. Her team will be off from Dec 19th until Jan 4th. She is already complaining to me about what she is going to be doing the whole time she has off. Of course my DD is not normal. She practiced with her travel team 1 Saturday morning, played 4 games with winterball team in afternoon until evening then begged me to take her to night game with her Uncles team. Then got up Sunday morning to play in Friendly with travel team. Maybe she will burn herself out but she Loves doing it now, so she is.

I wish she would take a break once in awhile. Tried to force her 1 time. So she suited up her brother in Catchers gear every day and pitched to him or made him soft toss to her. Like I said, she is not normal.

No longer than 1st week of January for us (light first workout)... TCS at the end of January, VT Friendly 1/17. It's personal pref usually... Some teams you won't even see again until February. The olders have the shortest breaks as they are trying to cram in as many innings as possible before going dark in Feb...

DD is a pitcher (16U) and currently on a light workout schedule - drills twice per day, pitching twice per week, no team workouts since late November. After next week school will be out for the winter break and DD will not workout at all. Once school starts back up on Jan 5th she will have one week of light workout to get her going again and mid Jan will be back on a full workout schedule - drills three times per day, pitching four days per week in addition to team workouts and games.

This will be her first real break from softball in 3 years so we will see how it goes. I am not too concerned because she will be playing high school ball before going back to her travel team. If she isn't 100% by mid February it won't be that big of a deal and we will have learned that she took too much time off :)

Crusher - what are you refering to when you say she does drills twice a day during her light work out period? I am trying to figure out an appropriate schedule for my DD during our break.

Our team is off from Monday 12/7 through Friday 1/1....3 full weekends off and the week before and after....26 days in total and I think for 12U is well deserved and needed....

Looks like most 12U teams are off now...see the Chino T4T...only 8 teams. But I see some friendlies are going on right up to the weekend before Christmas :o

I say give the girls rest, they are young and some of them have many years of softball left in them. I would hate to work my DD so hard that I burn her out. If she makes the decision to workout then that is fine, but I will still step in as a parent and make certain she gets some well-deserved rest. They are still growing and they need time to heal and be 12-year-olds...slumber parties, movies, friends outside of softball

I don't want to be one of those parents from that South Park episode...
