Playing in the snow?

If this forecast holds true, you are gonna have girls playing in rain/snow in 31-33 degree weather with 7-10 mph wind for Friday night pool games. Parents, coaches and umpires driving on possible slick/icy roads. I love softball but does this really make sense.

Pool games have already been cut to 1 game because the tournament was overbooked and nobody wanted to play Thursday night. Why not cut out all pool games and start the bracket games around 11 or 12 when it warms up to a balmy 37 - 40 degrees.

Just asking ;) ;)

Is it not crazy to play 3-4 games in a day when the heat index is 110 in august. Yet there is never a thread like this then asking TDs to cancel tournaments.

In White Settlement, games are not starting until 10AM on Saturday, and 9AM Sunday. Pool games have been shortened to 45 minutes and brackets to 1 Hr. on the 14u side.

FYI,

You can make a quick and dirty bat warmer by putting a 2lb bag of rice into softball sock then tying a knot at the top. Heat in microwave for 5-6 minutes(careful it will be HOT  ) and it will retain heat for about 2 hours. First few times it's moist, after that it works great.

I'll start taking pitty on you guys once you play in the cold so often that you start buying orange chalk for the foul lines and batters box

So will using bat warmers make the bats hotter? :?
Don't worry about tomorrow. You did that yesterday.

It's not just playing in the element, it's getting to and from the park. You go ahead and drive out there, Houstonians don't know how to drive in icy conditions. Be safe

IME it just makes the bat perform the way it would on a warmer day. The big benefit is not shattering your $300 bat because your using it at 30 degrees below the recommended minimum temperature. Also greatly reduces vibration caused by the bat being too cold. IMO ASA decided to allow them because it is NOT an advantage more than what you would get playing ona warmer day. IF it made the ball go significantly farther they would have held their ground.

You can warm those bats up all you want, but you also have to take into consideration that a lot colder ball will be coming at the bat as well. Trust me a batwarmer will help, but it wont make your bat crack proof on a weekend like this one.

I'm taking an trust aluminum just in case.

Toys for Tots has also changed schedule for later start on Saturday. Of course, as I'm typing this, it's snowing like you can't believe here in west Houston.
