Are Spring Teams A Good Thing

Before everyone starts in, yeas I am a 1st time poster. I have never really had a reason to post until now. I want to know if it is a good thing to let your kid play on a "Spring Team" if she plays on an older team and is not in high school? The reason I ask is because my daughters team just lost a really good pitcher to her temporary spring team. Our coach talked to the players parents and the spring team's coach and they all agreed this was temporary so she could continue to play. Now the spring teams coach (S_R_E_E_S) has pulled a fast one and kept our player. This is one of the top organizations and they do something like this. What kind of message does that send to coaches who have players that might need to play on a temp team. It will make them think twice, before trusting another coach with their player.

good post, well written, I hope no one goes off the handle. here is my take. If my DD were a P...and the Sorcerer's came calling, that is the time we say goodbye to our current team (I wont list the other 4 or 5 in this class). Not too many other teams does this hold true. I would face the fact that the girl accomplished everything she was supposed to and is now moving on. Hats off to her.

This may not be the best thing for your DD's team, but there are stepping stones on this path, some take them, some don't, some cant.

Not every situation is the same, and at the end of the day the temp situation that was chosen out of necessity may turn into a better fit. The other extreme is when you get to Memorial Day the HS kids are just better than the kids who had not been playing. They just don't get the reps.

I'll try to stay on the handle. Your perspective is that the "spring team's coach has pulled a fast one". IMHO incorrect. The player and her parents pulled a fast one. Frankly, the whole theme of your thread is curious to me. Where you are, are the coaches really the decision-makers on what teams a player is "allowed" to play on? That is fascinating.

I don't think the post is of bad nature...calm down.

There are some kids who just don't get the chance to play with better teams etc. We had a kid who couldn't crack our rotation but ended up on a better team and had meaningful innings.

FIT! I don't know how many times I have to say it.

When a team like the "S_____" comes calling you have to consider it. I also am a firm believer that kids should play with kids of their ability in their age versus playing with a lesser quality team in a higher age level. It sucks how it all affects you, but in the end it was probably going to happen eventually.

I understand how a parent could think they are doing what's best for there daughter. But being on a team with16-18 players and 5 pitchers doesn't make a lot of sense. Now is the time to be showcased. You can't show much with a couple of innings each weekend. You can't keep everyone happy only 9 can be on the field. But I do wish the player and her family the best of luck and I hope it all works out.

Years ago there was a first year 14U team recruiting players just for the high school season. The coach told everyone that came that he would not recruit any kid that came to his team during this time. A pitcher showed up and he heavily recruited her for entire time. When the season was over and she was ready to return to her real team and the coach told her if she didn't play for him she would never have a chance to play for that organization ever again, it was a top organization. The parents panicked and being new to the game jumped ship her team.

Did anyone else notice recently a SoCal 14U team had been posting for players for their regular team and then started posting for a dark team too - and the positions wanted on both ads were the same!

new pitcher must be upgrade on what they had. you dont add a pitcher to be a #5. likely top2 in rotation. doesnt look like a problem for the new kid. the pitchers that just dropped down the totem pole are ones that should be worried.
