Minor league team to have "Manti Te'o Girlfriend Bobblehead Day"
Written by Joe Lucia on Friday, 18 January 2013 07:45.

The independent Florence Freedom will be having a "Manti Te'o Girlfriend Bobblehead Day" during a game in late-May, making light of the ridiculous scandal in recent days involving Notre Dame's star linebacker.

With the promotion, the first 1,000 fans entering the stadium will be given an empty bobblehead box, and there will also be a pretend Kiss Cam where fans can kiss any imaginary friends or girlfriends with them. Also, the team will have an imaginary food fight and air guitar contest during the game, which takes place on May 23rd.

That's impressive. I'm going to nominate the site for the Manti Te'o Award of Excellence.............too bad it doesn't exist.

2nd in the Heisman trophy voting this past year. Pretty "excellent" college player in my book.

Why you kicking a guy when he's down?

Wow, really? The guy is either a complete idiot or a liar. More importantly, he can't tackle against real NFL talent i.e. Alabama.

Yes, really.

I don't know Manti T'eo personally nor do I know his family. But I do know the parents of his best friend since he was about 6 years old (the parents are also very good friends of each other) and these are two of the nicest people I have ever met. More importantly they have great integrity. I know that since they are close friends that the T'eo family is of the same character.

Jonriv, I saw your comment as well. Yes, Manti was extremely naive and made a big mistake. If you grew up in the islands and understood the culture there, adding in that they are a very religious Mormon family, then you might be able to understand how a person can be this "innocent" and immature even at his age.

When this story first broke and they questioned whether or not he was part of the hoax, I immediately turned to my wife and said, "No way". I felt for him as I knew that he was an unwitting victim.

Closer, from what I have seen of your posts on here, including this one, you are the last person who should ever (but always do) question someone else's character.

If I recall correctly, I believe you're the guy who used to constantly bash Sean Brashear, hiding behind your screen name. I think You were butt-hurt because your DD's team constantly came up short against them in big games.

Neither of these people deserve to be insulted and maligned by you.

Give it a rest.

I have a lot of Mormon friends too - and though I don't know many islanders , that would just add to how naïve I would expect out of him. These kids don't expect people to be ... like people are - they are raised to trust people - I know , I know, how stupid can you be, but I had the exact same thoughts, FPD.

So now we're making it an LDS issue? Come on, one of my best friends that attended catholic high school with me wasn't this stupid. Moreover, I grew up with many friends who were LDS and even played in an LDS basketball league back in the day in Ontario. This isn't a being LDS issue!

Closer, do you realize that for many Mormons their 1st kiss was at the altar?

Whether you agree or not with my opinion is cool but from the outside looking in it's pretty damn funny.

He has the physical tools to be a stud but the NFL is a lot more mental than college and I think he's too soft to be an impact player. My words are vanilla compared to all the crap he's going to get from opposing players and fans.

If he comes out like Troy Polamalu and plays with a reckless abandon than he may earn some respect back. Until then he's a puss!

McGraw related that bit of news on the "Today" show Wednesday. He was on the show to hype his interview with Tuiasosopo, which will air Thursday and Friday on his syndicated "Dr. Phil" show.

"I asked him, straight up, was this a romantic relationship with you?" McGraw said. "And he says, 'yes.' I then said, 'Are you then, therefore, gay?' He says, 'Well, when you put it that way, yes.' And then, he caught himself and said, 'I am confused.'"

McGraw also said that "absolutely, unequivocally" Te'o had no role in creating the hoax.

So, the Te'o story spins merrily on. All we need now are reports of space aliens and an Elvis sighting to make the story complete.

The Tuiasasopo family is a very well known Samoan family in the Samoan community. I'm betting this is not going over well.

I have a lot of Samoan friends and they are generally good-natured (and large), but for God's sake...don't piss them off! :o
