The official Notre Dame Football thread

by slapperdad » Mon Oct 10, 2011 11:53 am

At the risk of sounding like I'm piling on....OK maybe I am a little. ND gave up 33 points and 565 yards to Air Force. I know I'm a bit out of the loop, but 33 points to the AFA???? Have I been away from college Football for so long, the AFA is one of the offensive juggernauts of the NCAA? ND has not had a D since Barry Alvarez left!

At least it's a win....BTW, ND's schedule ranking drops to 10 this week.

LOL I thought I was on the wrong forum for a minute.

I didn't watch the game this week.......took the kids to the pumpkin patch and corn maze instead.

The boys thought it was cool to see the stealth bomber fly by though.

I will first qualify this by saying that I am not an Irish fan, but the triple option is very difficult to defend and nearly impossible for your scout team to simulate if your offense doesn't run it. It is assignment football and it doesn't allow you to be as aggressive. If you try to cheat, you will get burned.

AFA scored 16 points against ND's starting defense. The only scores (2 TD's & FG) that AFA had in the second half all came in the 4th quarter, once it was mostly second string guys, and a couple of third string guys. AFA had over 1/3 of their total offense in the 4th quarter.

BTW, ND's '93 defense might be a good argument against them "not having a defense since Alvarez left." ;)

I sat on the 14th row, about the 45 yard line, right behind Boston College's bench in 93, I beg to differ.

If they could have covered Pete Mitchell that day, I might have went along with you.

You got me there, but I still argue that was one of the best D's ND has ever had. They definitely choked in that game though!

WR Roby Toma's mom and dad were very good friends of mine in college in the mid-late 80's at University of Hawaii at Manoa so it was nice to see him score a TD this past weekend. Unfortunately for Roby they are very deep at that position so his playing time is limited.

Notre Dame was idle over the weekend, schedule rating takes another hit, it drops to 26.

Gunner Keil is reportedly making the trip up north to take in the USC game. 8-)

His uncle taking that fake punt 80 yards against Arizona is still one of my favorite ND football memories.
