Questions about try-outs So Cal 2000 HELP!!!

by Concerned1968 » Thu Aug 15, 2013 10:49 am

There about four different try-outs this weekend for big organizations. Where would you go? Also Mizuno-Batbusters is having try-outs this weekend but three of the teams are holding their own separate try-outs… confusing??? I’ve heard some crazy hard to believe stories about some of the new 14U 2000 coaches & Team Moms. I can chalk that up to bad blood but I would still want some background information. I don't want to go to try-outs blind. I am just looking for factual information on the coaches. Are they good coaches? Do they know the game? Have they won any significant tournaments, is their team mom stable/fair/trustworthy? I think it only fair as I need fill out questionnaires about my daughters with all her information Two more questions - Is Briggs coaching 14U anywhere? Would you place your daughter on a 99 team with a well-known Coach and risk not getting playing time but know your daughter will get great coaching.

I think you can get alot of info from HB and org websites concerning times and coaches. You are going to get good and bad "reviews" of coaches, so I would ask your DD where she might want to tryout.

Do 14U teams have assigned Team Moms already? Is there a tryout for those positions?

Good luck to your DD!

As far as the Briggs question,

http://www.teammizunofastpitch.com

That's the old web site. The current one is http://www.teammizunosoftball.org/

@Concerned1968 - It's late, but try to contact the teams to gauge interest in DD and/or her position(s). That might give you some visibility about which tryouts to attend.

No team moms are not assigned but they're usually the coach's wife and in my experience that can be a bit challenging.

So comical    You will never find a right or wrong answer. All this is a matter of someone's opinion plain and simple. Bottom line, you need to find out what works for you and your DD. Coaching/Managing a team is not an easy job and people need to remember not many coaches get paid to do this, and as for "Team Mom" that from my understanding is another position that is voluntary, whether you are a coaches wife or not, they too donate their time to the team and do not get any compensation for it. In all honesty, all any of these people get is a lot of flack from more than likely disgruntled parents. In my years of experience, I have always chosen to get the facts myself, do the research and go directly to the source, and have been lucky to have a wonderful team and a great coaches and a good "Team Mom". They couldn't pay me enough to do any of it, its a thankless job! But I thank all Coaches and Parents "Team Moms or Dad's that put themselves out there for all our DD's. On that note good luck with your choices but if you want the right answer, draw your own opinions and talk to them yourself ;)

Absolutely , to get your foot in and get those 5 hour practices on sat and sun . Minimal playing time will slowly turn into starting every other friendly due to the great coaching , if the kids a sponge. good luck.
All I wanted was a Pepsi!
