Power Surge Friendly 4-21-13

by 25! & 28! » Sun Apr 21, 2013 8:08 pm

This is just quick note intended to acknowledge two things about the Power Surge friendly held today, Sunday 4-21-13. (I am in no way associated with the Power Surge organization. Our team simply attended today’s friendly.)

First, and as usual, the fields were beautiful. The grass was mown. The infields were level and dragged. And most importantly, as I am a pitcher’s dad, the pitching mounds were in great condition. There is nothing worse than travelling to a field where the pitchers have to deal with sand pits or un-level pitching rubbers or drag holed pitching mounds. Power Surge pitching mounds and fields were perfect.

Second, Power Surge created a unique hour forty (1:40) drop dead format. While the above field condition note is without reservation, this note is simply a matter of my opinion. The extra twenty (20) minutes adds substantial value to every friendly game. The extra innings that pitchers get are invaluable. Likewise, the added “at bats,” for all the girls are precious. I understand that friendlies are fund raisers, but they are also a critical part of team improvement. I hope that more organizations understand this and adjust friendly schedules accordingly. Longer games would just make us all better.

Thanks Power Surge for a fun and valuable day.

25!&28! Thank you for the kind words. PS did just put quite a bit of money into the fields and it definitely shows. Putting aside the beautiful day, field quality and length of games I have to say the highlight of the day for me by far was seeing the members of the Cunningham family up at the fields. I'm so glad to see they are doing much better.

Couldn't agree more 25!and28!. We too attended the friendly and were able to get in 7, 6 and 5 innings in our games Sunday. So much better prep for tournament play than the typical 3 or 4 innings you get in a friendly. Wish more would adopt this format!

That news on the Cunningham family being out at the fields is fantastic. I'd also comment that a 1:40 game time schedule is excellent. Sounds like the PS organization is in good hands these days.

From http://www.caringbridge.org/visit/cunni ... ly/journal:

Update from Alisa:

Busy day full of special memories and family success! Papa drove up this am to take Jayden and I to her softball friendlies! We watched 2 games and it was so good to see her team excited to see her and watch her enjoy the love and support that her team showers her with. We can not wait to get back to the So Cal Breakers and finish the season STRONG! (6-8 weeks left hopefully)
After a nap we went to seeTaylor and enjoyed her laughter and humor! We are asking for prayer as she pushes her body physically and mentally. Much progression is still asked and needed. The laughter makes the progress so much more enjoyable. Haha. Praying now that Papa gets safely to Brawley and that all 6 of us sleep peacefully through the night!

We at Power Surge thank you all for the compliments. It is a labor of love at our fields as we get no help financially or city workers to take care of our fields from the 'City'. Dads, moms, and volunteers make up our work force.

I agree with the posters on here that 1 hour 40 is the best. Mostly full games and it duplicates real games that will be played at Premier and ASA Nationals. 1 hour 20 is really way too short. 3-4 innings and an at bat or two a game. We played this past weekend in a very competitive Friendly with 1 hour 20 and some girls got only one at bat a game. I would hope more go to the longer formats so we can play more ball.

We are so happy the Cunninghams were able to attend. Power Surge wishes speedy recoveries for those family members who are still recovering.

Please attend our 1 hour 40 minute 12u Freindly May 18 and 14u Friendly May 19.

Signed,

The Power Surge Gardener
