More than Love- Mitzi Riggs
Mitzi Riggs was born on January 31, 1962 and moved to California as a young girl. She is a resident of Yorba Linda and proud alumna of Esperanza High School where she met her loving husband, Jeff Riggs. Together, they have four daughters: Rochelle (27), Jaclyn (24), Colette (17), and Aubrey (15). Mitzi and Jeff have been, and continue to be, an important part of our community. Mitzi lives her life by giving back to those around her as well as being a rock for her family. She works at Glenknoll Elementary School as an instructional aide and has volunteered countless hours for the school and Placentia-Yorba Linda Girls Softball Association (PYLGSA). Mitzi has been an integral part of PYLGSA for the past 22 years, serving as a coach, manager and several different board positions throughout those years. On August 15, 2012, Mitzi was diagnosed with a very rare and aggressive type of thyroid cancer. Since she has given so much to our community, it is time that we take this opportunity to show our love and support to her and her family. Mitzi is a wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, coach, friend and a SURVIVOR. With the help and support of her friends, family, and community, we will help her beat cancer.
It is times like these that define who we are. I have always thought of PYLGSA as a family and the people in it my brothers, sisters and daughters. Mitzi absolutely embodies this philosophy and, in more ways than one, is the heart and soul of the league. She is stubborn, strong, tender, fun and loving….and at her very core an advocate for the girls. Your girls. OUR girls. I’ve known no person who has done more for these kids, and this league, than she has. And that is why, as friends and family, our action here on HER behalf, as HER advocate….is what defines who WE are. We are going to step up here and help this amazing person and family.
