Preping for the SAT

by NumeroUno » Mon Sep 26, 2011 12:00 pm

What are some recommendations for a student to prepare to take the SAT?

SAT classes, sylvan learning center etc.

Any success stories?

Have you seen KhanAcademy.com? This is an amazing resource and there is a section dedicated to the math part of the SAT.

khan is awesome. I would recommend his stuff to anyone, and best of all it is free.

My daughter did Princeton Review course. It definitely prepared her for taking the test. If you attend every class first time through, you can attend those classes as many times as you want. Which is nice. For the SAT you can retake to get higher scores on specific sections.

My dd is doing Revolution Prep (revolutionprep.com). She said it is really helping her. She goes to classes on Thursday's and when she can, she goes and takes practice tests on Saturday's.

She said it helped her with her ACT as well.

Take as many practice tests as possible.

For each incorrect answer, figure out why you got it wrong.

If you are weak in a particular subject, get one on one tutoring immediately for that subject.

Call me old school if you want, but a good start might be learning to spell "prepping" correctly.

Spelling doesn't count on the SAT.
