Last week ... 2 gals made bad plays on DD's HS team... one on the bases was a real 'bone-head ' move ... the other was not being aggressive enough on a play in the outfield ... Coach Hosehead kept riding the gals until they each broke down and cried in the dugout ... instead of saying his piece and dropping it ... he rode them and rode them, on and on until the cried and they kept on them ...
SO ... I say, you are the Coach, Not their Grandmother, if you just point out what they do good you are a Grandmother not a Coach ... but there are right ways and wrong ways to handle constructive critisism ... and one of my favorites is to say " WE need to work on that "
AS Arto observed :
" his runner was thrown out at 2nd base on a steal attempt. as she shuffled slowly by him to their dugout, shoulders slooped, head down, he yells loud enough for everyone within 100 feet to hear: "That's why I don't steal you, you can't run, and you don't know how to slide! Now get in the dugout!"
I say that this girl already felt like crap ... its a small weak person that has to tear a person down to build themselves up ... the facts are; 1.) but he did steal her, unless she went on her own 2.) if she did run as fast as she could, its the job of the Coach to know his players limitations 3.) If she doesn't know how to slide, who's fault is that ? ... In any event, this is a teachable moment for both the Coach and the player ...
Are you sure this guy doesn't moonlite as a HS Coach in VA. ? I'd like to be a fly on the wall for the 'intimate converstion' Skarp wants to have with him ... LMAO!
