It's been a great weekend of softball. Although we were eliminated early by a very good team the only gripe I have is the pathetic, moronic umpires that they hired. I don't know where they dug these old fossils umping behind the plate and on the field. We had a lot of controversial calls and many times they didn't even know the rules. I hope at the next So Cal Finest they will hire more competant umpires instead of the graduates from Moron University.

Corona Angels - Lockman
Corona Xpress 97
Firecracker 97
Firecracker 98
OC Batbuster - Snow
SO Cal Breakers - Imoto
Minors Gold - Alvarez
OC Frenzy

Top 8 are:
Punishers
Sorcerers
Batbusters - Snow
Lady Magic
Corona Xpress
Corona Angels
Firecrackers 98
Cal Cruisers (I believe this was the 97 team)

You are batting .500 - not too bad.....

I have to agree 100% with 2playball. Spaz, don't roll your eyes as if this is just another parent complaint because the call didn't go their way. These umps as a whole were some of the worst I have seen. Not knowing the rules, giving wrong interpretations, just BAD. BAD, BAD, BAD.

Also, I must say I didnt agree with how they set up the brackets after pool play. Teams had to wait until 9:30 - 10:00 just to find out when and what field they wer playing on the next. Crazy!!
Also, if you must do it the way they did, then take out the revert rule. Teams who put a beat down on a team thinking those runs would count for the seeding, found out that those did'nt count and got pushed lower in the brackets. Not a good way to do it. Don't try and reinvent the wheel when it rolls just fine the way it is.

Now I want to end this on a positive note. MG had the facilities in top notch shape and the snack bar and shaved ice was great. Also, the fact that we could park our R.V. close to the fields and camp over night for free is great. This was perfect for those of us who live in north O.C. and found out at 10pm they have an 8am game. No problem, we were there....

Spazdad read the tournament rules below since your incorrect that Runs Allowed is not the first tie-breaker it's head to head.

Method for seeding into bracket play: Points: Win=1 Tie=1/2 Loss=0
A. Head to Head B. Runs Allowed C. Runs For D. Coin Toss

There was this controversy in the 14U bracket seeding between Corona Angels against San Diego Renegages where they were cheated out of a higher seed and you and Numero Uno just kind of looked away from it.

I agree with Krush in get rid of the revert rule. When the 1:40 drop dead game is called what ever the score is at that time should be the final score no matter who is batting at the time. Your ruling confused a lot of people. I'm sure that these umpires might have worked out fine in the 18G showcase or Surf City but in my humble opinion they were bad in this tournament.

it would also help to rotate the umpires around instead of getting stuck with the same one. To us once you piss off the ump then your on their S*#@ list for the rest of the day especially if your playing back to back games.

Otherwise, it was a great tournament atmosphere. JMHO

Spaz,
#1. The umps I saw should have retired years ago. Let me give you just one example.
Bases loaded, no outs. fly ball to the third baseman in front of the bag. Who by the way dropped the ball. Whats the call??
Ah let me think, oh yea, infield fly rule. batter is out. But your 18U gold crew called it a fair ball and they ended up with a triple play. When they were asked to interpret the rule, the home plate ump said the ball didn't go high enough. When he realized he had made a wrong call, and that no where in the rule book mentions anything about a height requirement, his reply was that the batter had bunted the ball. She was a lefty slapping. Here's your first eye roll back at ya  I have a few more examples but will spare you.
#2 I would agree if you were seeding per pools, but in the case to which I'm referring to, the visitors scored 7 runs in the top half of the inning, but when the home team was to take the field, there was only a few minutes left in the game and the home team elected to call the game early and walked. Now the visitors had to give up the runs scored which dropped them in the bracket seeding by two or more spots. They ended up with a tougher draw due to this and the way the brackets were done. change it to 1:20 finish the game if your going to seed by runs scored. Or count the runs if the home team walks thinking they can't win with the time left to drop. Here's two more eye rolls for you
#3 First off, you must go to the same eye doctor as most of the umps working this weekend. Read back and you will see I said between 9:30 - 10:00. Got a text at 8:55 stating it will be at least another 45 min. for the brackets to be completed. I don't lie.

I agree with Krush and 2playball, the umps blew! I don't care if they call the 18 gold showcases or not. If they walk like a duck, talk like a duck......Just because they call the showcase games, they're not open to critisism? Come on now, stop with the spinning. It's all constructive critisism, don't take it so personal spaz. We're just giving feedback to help make So Cals Finest the best tourney possible. The revert blows with that format as well. With all that said, more positives than negatives. We had a blast! Looking forward to next months beat the heat. :D

I have now heard it all. Somebody actually thinks that they should let a game end with the visitors ahead and the home team not getting their last at bat because time expired. The score has to revert back or it will look and smell like our government! :D
