Everything is so serious now with the college exposure, nationals, and etc....But I have learned to keep my mouth shut a lot more and that is thanks to the DD's younger years and looking back at how foolish I acted so that it doesn't happen now. I would like to think that I am the wiser now.
The mistakes that you might have made are learning curves for you and just like you had the right to make them, the 10u parents today have those same rights.
The battle of getting there is just as important as the battle of being there IMO. So if you really care about the 10u kids and you are truly trying to help them and not just attempting to prove that you have been there and done that (which I believe is the case most of the time), then try giving a little insightful advice rather than looking down your nose at them. JMO for what it is worth.
Excellent points. My take:
1. IMO, this is now just like soccer at this age - just be careful to let your kid make the choices and dont pressure them into one sport or another at this age.
2. 10u parents are the new 12u - they take TB way to seriously considering the age.
3. Many of these girls will be out of the sport by 14u, so dont rob them of these important years - make sure they have balance and have the opportunity to play other sports.
4. As well as you know (or think you know) your kid - the signs of burnout are generally recognized by parents a bit late.
5. Campbell is the exception not the rule, and so are the kids that play for him. If all 10U parents had to have their kid play for him for one year, most would be completely different after that. He has this innate ability to speed up the learning curve for all involved.
