Teams that try-out on the same day

DD is going to try-outs next weekend. The problem is that one of the teams she is looking at has try-outs on Saturday and Sunday and the other team she is looking at has try-outs on Sunday. If we go to the try-out on Saturday for one team then go to the other teams try-out on Sunday, does that hurt her chances with the "Saturday" team? Should we let the "Saturday" team know that she is trying out on Sunday for another team and won't be able to attend the Sunday work out? Do we put all our eggs in one basket and hope we made the right decision? Thanks in advance for input.

Tell both teams the truth and go to both tryouts, if they don't want you to do that find another team.

What do you do if three teams have try-outs on the same day and could only attend one ?

Ask coaches for a private tryout or if they will have any make up tryout dates.

Tryout for the best team she has the best chance to make. Then try to make arrangements for the coaches on the other teams to have private tryouts. If they are interested, they will work with you. No coach won'ts to pass on the next Cat simply because of a schedule conflict.

A few more what if's...

1. Assuming DD can make teams, would you go with established successful team looking for 2-3 players (returning team) probably knowing infield is set and become starting Right Fielder ? Team is top notch but DD would be bottom 1/3rd. This team is far from where we live.

2. Go on new "no name" team and probably be starting stud middle-infielder and get a lot more playing time but new no name team could implode by end of winter ? This team is close to where we live.

3. Go on new "big name" team but no real link to more successful older teams and future as uncertain as #2 as this is travel coach's first year doing travel. But team is a "big name". No positions set in stone on this team. This team is far from where we live.

4. "Play up" and be lucky to be in situation #1 above but could be player #13 and ride the bench but get to work with better older players and better coaches. Minimal playing time.
This team is close to where we live.

5. "Play up" but on much weaker team than #4 (similar to #2) and DD could get more playing time playing with older girls. This team is close to where we live.

6. Play for top notch team in age group, no positons set, great coaching but team is farthest of all and is up to 1.5hrs away in each direction.

go with number #6 if you are 2nd year 12 and older. Younger then that get all the playing time you can and make things easy on you.

I agree with sbfan. Get your DD in the door with a top notch organization (if she is a 2nd year 12U or above player) which has a great gold program. Establish yourself in the organization, prove you're there for the long run and if your daughter is thrieving, she will get her due justice in time. I know it can get frustrating if she rides the pine for awhile, but you have to look down the road. Re-evaluate your goals for DD. College scholarship? Then go for the best! Wait to long, and it might be really hard to get on one of those top 10 teams. Same thing has happened to us, DD played on a couple of "hometown" teams, no offense to them, but when we got hooked up with a top 10 organization, we were amazed at the skill level of the other girls! WOW, VERY eye opening. I would have done things WAY different in hind site. I gladly drive 60+ minutes to my DD team, no problem! IMHO, go for it.

Thanks for all the responses. The teams DD is trying out for are two well respected "Qualified" 18 Gold teams. One team is having skills/abilities try-out on Saturday and "game speed" try-outs on Sunday. The other team is just having a skills/abilities try-out on Sunday. The same thing will apply for the following weekend, unless they fill their needs on the first weekend. Putting all our hopes in one teams try-outs is a crazy thing to do. Was hoping for some coaches input on this one as well. thanks again

Both teams try-outs are at the same time on Sunday. I don't have a problem telling them what we are looking at and that we area trying out for other teams, but it's very competitive at the 18 Gold level and we could possibly end up going from two try-outs to scrambling to find a team.
