All I can say is WOW! I read the first few posts this morning only to come back this evening to find the thread has degenerated into name calling, insulting the other posters intelligence, along with grammar lessons in the use of the English language. There are few among us who can compose a grammatically perfect piece of writing. Myself included. We are all adults, so lets act like it.
As for the original post in the thread, it is disturbing to say the least. Did this coach use undue influence on this girl with her being a coach? Did the girl go willingly? Did the girl want to experiment with something and became scared of consequences? Is this coach a predator or did she exercise poor judgment in an isolated case? There are many, many things we'll never know, and some things we'll find out once it's all over.
As for the whole lesbian thing and sports. Yes, they are there, but I don't believe in any more numbers than in the general population. With nothing but females around it tends to skew the perception on a female team. My daughter had lesbians on her HS and college teams. The biggest difference was the they came out once they hit college and were away from the everyday influence of their family. There were also girls on the team who were alcoholics. Some who were very loose with whom they let in their beds. Another one dated a guy who nearly 15 years older than her. Others had one boyfriend, and few had psychological issues. All of these things are pretty much what you get in the general population.
I've read articles and watched some programs about young people and their sexuality. It seems there is always a young person who they interview who says they "knew" they felt different inside when it came to their feelings towards the opposite sex and the same sex. Some "experts" say we're hardwired by nature when it comes to sexual preference. Others believe it's outside influences. As for me I don't know, but there have been multiple studies done on the subject.
I guess the biggest issue here comes down to the age difference and did the coach coerce the girl with undue pressure. That is something that must be worked out by the people involved with the case. Calling each other names here does nothing useful.
