Change Up, It is so sad when a 18G player cannot hit a change up to save their life. That was a problem when my DD was 14U and we worked on at lessons and now its one of her most favorite pitches to hit. I agree that you have to go with what is working because we have players that will go with that outside pitch all day long to RF and others look at it for strike 3. But change ups most recently have been painful to watch. my 2 cents.

Have your catcher call the game(if they can) they tend to be less predictable than coaches

Watch the WCWS, CU is thrown a lot at that level so dont feel bad if someone has trouble with it.

Offspeed appears to give trouble to many MLB players as well. So Sad

A good pitcher keeps the batter uncomfortable- changing speeds and location accomplishes this. The CU causes a lot of problems. Some pitchers are very good at disguising it and too many batters try to do too much with it.

Our last high school pitcher had trouble throwing a cu for a strike, usually my kid (the current high school pitcher) can throw one for a strike pretty consistently (last weekend was certainly an exception), but this last kid, would throw that reverse cu think , the pitch that tarryn mowwit (sp) threw for UA. But the kid i am talking about , like about 99% of the kids that attempt that pitch, would drop it on the ground about half way to the plate. But she sold the pitch so well, some hitters would swing - and the ball would be still rolling toward home plate - the kid has already turned on the pitch and a lot of the girls would just laugh. Its like 'what the heck'.

Strike 3 has always been my favorite. Preferably a riseball for a swinging strike.

I like the strike 3 idea, the issue on an 0 and 2 count is what do you throw then. I dont like a rise ball for that pitch, because a hanging rise ball, usually goes in someone's trophy case, if you can find it.

CU, thrown properly, is just devastating.

I just hate when it is always thrown with two strikes- too predictable. nothing messes up a batter(or a coach) like a well thrown first pitch change-up. They don't know what's coming next and makes fastballs seem that much faster

I agree.
