Might as well get used to it, it can happent at Nationals. Spazdad would remember the 10u nats when we had a game at 10, go back to the rooms and in bed by maybe 12:00 and at the fields again at 6:00.

As a guy who ran the Fillys organization for a couple of years....I wonder how a team calls themselves a Filly team associated with the Gold Fillys team and they are from San Dimas and not Norco. All Fillys teams have Norco ties.

Why not just call the team American Pastime? They're closer.

I'm glad I didn't believe for one second that ASA was going to be new and improved with new leaders....new structure...new outlooks....blah blah blah Same ol ASA. No COMMON SENSE.

Two Questions:

#1 Does anyone on the ASA staff have kids?
My daughter's bedtime is 9:00pm. How do we expect these kids, after a 12 year structured bedtime, to perform their best from 9:00-10:30pm. I agree it won't change but it still IS NOT RIGHT! Unacceptable! Parents should stand up and fight for all of these children.

#2 What members of the ASA staff felt it was acceptable to play a 5pm game in Hemet?
Most teams are at least 1 hour or more away from Hemet. Most teams require warm-up of, at minimum, an hour before the game. Most Southern California residents understand FRIDAY TRAFFIC. They have to leave by about noon to make it. Do these people live in Southern California?

So ASA is requiring parents (some of the same parents that paid for hotels on Friday of last weekend for no apparent reason), to take off work to get their childen to the games on time. (LIKE TRAVEL BALL ISN'T COSTLY ENOUGH ALREADY). Then, if they qualify, we require another 5-8 days off work.

My biggest issue:

ASA requires some of these players to take off school to make the games on time. Most schools aren't even out until about 3pm. What are we teaching these children about their education? Education should come FIRST, not second. What if a student has perfect attendance? Gotta make that 5pm game though...that doesn't matter.

ASA's answer:

You can forfeit your first game and still play...IN THE LOSERS BRACKET...that seems fair.

For an organization that is here "for the kids", their actions sure don't show that! Unacceptable!

PS. I'm not affiliated with a team that has a game at 5pm Friday, but it still IRKS ME! It's wrong!

I'm the last guy to make excuses for ASA, but it's a three day tournament crammed into 2 days for crying out loud. What's ASA supposed to do...suspend the time-space continuum for you? Look at the times on Sunday...if they play all the way through game 77 the tournament will end at about 2:00 a.m. on Monday morning.

A few other things:

--Perfect attendance is overrated...form over substance. It's not going to kill the kids to miss a day here or there. Their teachers were C students anyway. If I knew when the Kwaanza or environmental indoctrination sessions were (to name just a few) I'd yank them from every last one of those days.

--Structured bedtimes are commendable, but come on. These are young ladies, not first graders. They are going to be asked their entire lives to do things when they aren't necessarily at their best. That's not "unacceptable"...that's life.

Agreed...Skarp. I guess the two things I have a problem with are...one, if you read the email from Ann, ASA did not seem too concerned by the challenges many of these teams could experience other than potentially staying up until 10pm on Sunday...and I'm not sure if that was a concern for the players or themselves. Sure they recognized school, but that sounded more like a courtesy than anything else. After all, she would allow for a forfeit. Also, I love how they played the victim card too..."But, unfortunately the weather did not cooperate with us"....uh no, you did not account for potential weather conditions and failed to prepare accordingly. Secondly, I was not out there on Friday or Saturday and did not see the field conditions, but as I've said before...putting in a little extra work on said fields and we may have avoided this entire disaster. I did not see a drop of rain all weekend and I'm closer to Hemet than most. IMO, they should have done anything and everything possible to get that tournament in as scheduled....every place else did. Good luck to those teams playing at 5pm and getting there on time and safely!
