In 14u, based on the qualifiers that have now been posted, it looks like there are 25 berths available to be earned via national qualifiers. Based on the number of teams at PGF 14u Nats the past 2 years, I would venture to guess there will be about 20-25 or so returning berths/invites given out.

One thing of note is that the Nor Cal and Oregon 14u qualifiers are the same weekend instead of different weekends. That takes away one additional opportunity that the So Cal teams have used to try to qualify the past 2 years by going first to Nor Cal, and then to OR if they had to.

Way to think that one through PGF. Not only did you schedule the two closest qualifiers for Washington teams on one of the biggest tournament weekends, but you scheduled them on the same date. We would've considered attending both if needed...now we won't be able to attend either.

There will be 36 berths available through qualifiers in the 14U division. 56 total teams in 14U. There are still 4 qualifiers to be listed - Kissimmee, FL - Myrtle Beach, SC - Houston, TX(16/18) - New Braunfels, TX(12-14)

Thanks JMO, good info to know.

Looking ahead for So Cal 14u teams, it seems there will be 3 less (reasonably close) opportunities for many of the better 14u teams to attend in 2013. I believe in 2012, there were 5 qualifiers scheduled within driving distance for So Cal teams: Arizona, Colorado, So Cal, Nor Cal and Oregon.

For 2013, the AZ qualifier is May 18-19. High School playoffs run from May 14-28, with finals May 31-June 1, so many second year teams will likely have quite a few girls still in HS ball on May 18 and they wont be able to commit to go to AZ to try to qualify. That would be good news for the first year 14u teams, of course. Last year, I believe the AZ qualifier was June 1-3, so this wasnt much of a problem.

In 2012, the Nor Cal and Oregon qualifiers were 2 weeks apart in late June and mid-July, providing the chance for So Cal teams to go to both if they wanted to. In 2013, they are on the same weekend and so teams can only attend one or the other.

There is no Colorado qualier for 14u in 2013 (at least not yet, that I see on PGF site).

So, the reality is that the better 14u teams (mostly second year 14u teams) are looking at only 2 qualifiers that they can attend within driving distance: So Cal and either Nor Cal or Oregon. Other than that, teams are going to have to travel out much further.

So it looks like in the 18U division, they are holding separate qualifying tournaments for Premier and Platinum divisions. Why not hold one tournament and top x number finishers qualify for Premier and next y qualifiers qualify for Platinum? If you qualify early for Premier you are done with qualifiers. If you qualify early for Platinum, you can continue attempting to qualify Premier without sacrificing your Platinum spot unless you qualify Premier. If you get a second Platinum spot, just skip over to the next team.

Now THAT is a great post. I actually thought that was the way they would do it, but, oh well.

THAT is the way it works. If you qualify for Platinum, you can go ahead and buy your plane tickets immediately and still enter qualifiers and try and earn a Premier berth. You do not lose your Platinum berth.
