Ridiculous tryouts

What's on your mind?

That's a slippery slope. I'll settle for Uno the person not having his team do early tryouts and not liking it and telling us he doesn't like it and Uno the businessman providing an unbiased, open and most importantly (within reason) uncensored forum for all of us.

What you're asking him to do would change the Bucket in ways I don't think we would really want it changed.

In my opinion...

Every business decision comes at a price. The trick is to evaluating all the cost factors which at times includes public image. Once you gathered and analyzed all pertinent data you make a choice. At times the actual cost is not truly known for some time, particularly if it involves a PR strategy.

In this case:

1. Shut down the tryout postings until a future date and demonstrate that HB walks the talk and possible upset a few paying customers. Great PR but is the price to high? In my opinion if it eliminates one injury the price is worth it. But that is just me

2. Do noting, keep the status quo and not lose a single paying customer. This would also confirm that HB is more interested in their bottom line than the well being of a teenage girl and his post was disingenuous. Not good PR, but no immediate effect on revenue.

Isn’t uno with MG. You might want to check this.

I have an idea...since you're endorsing censorship on HB why don't Uno and Spaz start with removing your holier-than-thou unrealistic BS and make you just go away? Good for them and lucky for you that they won't because they believe in free speech and maintaining an unbiased, uncensored open forum.

I have another idea...why don't you start your own site? We'll meet you over there.

Honest...

It’s a bitch when facts get in the way of your perceived reality. Did you bother checking the link or did I just push the right button that set off your tantrum.

Yes, I looked at the link. Minors Gold is waiting 3 full weeks after PGF to have their tryouts and to my knowledge they will not begin practice until early/mid September.

Your point? (Besides wanting so desperately to get back at Uno and Spaz because of the squabbles you've had with them here in the past)

It is not my choice of when MG has there tryouts....

Sally isn't going to fall behind the other players. She'll actually love the game more if she had a few months off. Have her play another sport.....use different muscles and joints.

There is no excuse for what is happening to these young ladies. The power to correct this is there. It would start with a an easy decision by the best pitchers' parents........all they would habve to do is take four months off....choose not to select their respective teams until January. That would make the Fall meaningless.

If the NCAA would ban recruiting in the Fall and force colleges to recruit only in the Summer, the Fall would simply be an extension of rec ball.

If those same pitchers' parents would demand a six pitcher starting rotation and demand pich limits recommended by Dr. James Andrews, the game would be well on its way to being fixed. Questionable teams would be weeded out and rec ball would be revived.

The sky is a lovely shade of mauve In my world.

I suspect your mauve sky is actually a purple haze. You have the best of intentions, but you get so carried away with it that it's hard for people to take you seriously.

Parents are ultimately responsible for the health and well-being of their kids. Unfortunately, they don't know enough until it's too late. The younger ones are still growing and need the break the most - and their parents are also the ones least likely to think they need it because their DD feels fine.

The NCAA banning recruiting in the fall is a pipe dream.

How come you're not after CIF to institute limits? The coaches that only use 1 pitcher for 5 games in 3 days should be on your radar. Two (2) league games a week aren't really an issue as long as the HS coach isn't making them pitch BP the rest of the days.

Dr Andrews does advocate pitch counts, among other things, and helped develop the rules for LL baseball - however, they weren't implemented for softball. Limits are needed for softball, but they don't have to be as restrictive.

There are pitching limits that were developed specifically for softball (click here) and they don't require 6 pitchers on each team. Most teams with 3 pitchers have enough to follow them if they spread the load instead of riding their #1 into the ground.

IMHO, you can achieve more by advocating what individuals can do themselves instead of your improbable grandiose suggestions. There are also a lot of other things about injury prevention that you could be advocating (e.g. exercises, stretching, posture, mechanics, etc).
