This weekend in DFW

by softballfan33 » Fri Nov 13, 2009 9:35 am

The Blaze team had 3-4 98's playing with them earlier in the fall including a girl playing catcher. They didn't have enough 99's to play. Now that they have picked up several more 99's they have stopped using the 98's. I believe their plan was always to move to a solely 99 team, but until they could pick up enough 99's, they used the others to get the girls some playing time. We played them early fall season (with the 98's) and saw them in Temple and they didn't have those 98's with them. It is fine to use them as they have. The 99 girls shouldn't have to skip tournaments because they don't have enough players, now that they do, they are a 99 team. Their pitchers are 99's though and as long as they can get to a full 9-10 99's by January 1st, they will continue to be solid.

The Bombers did pick up their pitchers the day before the Southlake tournament (not Mansfield) in October. The team had never played together until that Saturday morning, so my understanding is they were struggling with their defensive plays and a lot of their offense (didn't see the games just heard about them). Especially with figuring out what position to play the new girls they added. They also brought a couple of girls in to "tryout" for the team that they were getting into some games. It is fall and so they wanted to see what those girls could do in live game situations before committing to picking them up for the spring. Several of those girls are no longer with the team and they (the 99 Bombers) have set their roster now and are settling into a rhythm. That is what fall is all about. That may be why you see the differences from one tournament to another. The other pitcher they have, wasn't with them at any of the tournaments except Huber Ranch as she had previous committments. She should be there this weekend and the remainder of the fall and spring. Haven't seen her play, but if that really makes them a solid 3-some and the bats continue to come alive as they did in Temple, they will be in the hunt regularly.

All the fall teams are trying to figure out what to do for the Spring so this is mostly practice. You can never predict where teams (especially the young ones) will be in the spring for the most part, but the posts above are right. Should be some good games this weekend. Unfortunately we will be at my son's baseball tournament. Good luck to everyone. :D :D

No a 98 catcher was picking up with them for the first few tournaments never the pitcher. And they have/had one other 98 player on their roster at one point who is not a pitcher either and the rest are 99's. I agree with the last post...both teams are strong teams and I am sure we will be hearing about the games between those two all season....after all both teams are just getting started. There should alot of good games to watch this weekend, should be alot of fun.

Ok Mansfield. Alot of good team Sat evening starting at 7p should be fun,
Glory easy road till Sunday morning, then Sox-Bombers winner.
Bombers and Black Sox at 7P If the Sox hit watch out.
Threat and Roughriders at 7p, Alot of small ball here. Who ever can lay a bunt down and move runners over will win.
Blaze vs Extreme. Blaze unless theis extreme team is as good as their record.
Glory rides their horse all day Sunday.
Don't know if anyone hits Glory if the big girl pitches.

They beat Blacksox twice, Threat once....take away the "ahem", "experienced"....pitcher, and they don't win any of 'em..that's what's so infuriating...to see "experienced", (98's), still throwing this late in the year...even though, if you are a god team, you should be on top of anything that you face, but it's like having that weight in the front of your race car, right?? Advantage, YOU!

Don't want to hear anything about "thems beinz a reeelz goodz teamz cuz I'z gonna pick demz master"...anymore, until the playing field is leveled with all 99's playing...until then,,,,just like they doez Barry Bondz...*
