Why do people have to lie?

What's on your mind?

Coaches lie to get players, Suzy will play, she is the best blah blah. Coaches are like salesmen, Always trying to sell you on your DD of either how good they are or how good they have gotten so you will stay.

Some lie because DD isn't the best and sits but parents cannot come to reality and see that she is not the best because the one time she did do well they base her whole season on the one time. Parents will lie about a team and a coach they were just on because DD didn't play where they think she should of played even though the coach had her in a better position that she excelled at. When their DD got cut it couldn't of been their DD no not at all it has to be the coach and his horrible way of coaching. People move on when you leave a team stop talking about the past. Softball is small community and pretty soon people see the true colors of all the trouble you have caused. Parents lie about how many pitches she has and how fast their DD throws. And if their DD doesn't have what it takes it must be that they are having a bad month oh I mean day.

Travel ball is full of backstabbing and lying people, get used to cause I have a feeling it never goes away. You cant believe anyone in travel until you see it for your own eyes. Everyone smiles and tells a different story to each person they know and as soon as your turn your back watch out cause your the next person they are talking about. I've seen teams torn apart by lies and backstabbing. Its the strong that survive and if you can stay out of all the drama and don't get caught up in all of the lies than you will be a better travel ball parent or coach than many.

Oh, so travel ball is just like most human societal activities...

if they are leaving, does it matter?

I had 13 players last Summer. One of the players did not come close to playing like we thought she would. During qualifiers she started splitting time with other kids as she just didnt hit the entire Summer.

before our last qualifier I got a call from her dad. He is a VERBATIM log of how the call went. ia m not making this up, this is EXACTLY what was said:

Me: Hello

Parent: HI, Corey, this is XXXXX

Me: Hi, XXXX, how are you.

Parent: Good, hey I just wanted to let you know that XXXX is going to shut it down for the Summer.

Me: Ok, have a good Summer.

Parent: Ok, uhhhhh, thanks, Good bye.

Me: Bye

Click. Conversation over. i dont care why they want to leave. if they want to leave, what does it matter. Unless something has happened that made the kid uncomfortable on the team, that would be different and it would be up to the parent to come out and be honest.

You forgot:

Me: What are your plans for returning my equipment? And when do you think you'll do that?

yes, it is very unfortunate that this happens but it does way too often than not

Are there people like this in travel ball? Yes. Is travel ball "full" of these people? No.

That opens up a whole new topic, I have a dad that quit for his daughter via text message and will not return my phone calls, text messages, or emails to get the TEAMS equipment. We have a contract that clearly stats what is required to be returned. What the heck is equipment with another teams logo all over it going to do for you anyway? Any suggestions???

It is true though, I do not care why they decided to quit as I have a pretty good idea, although a face to face would have been more appropriate...

One time I told the coach the truth. He was freaking out, because obviously, most parents lie. To this day, 3 years later, he is still butt hurt. He told another coach & a bunch of parents, who eventually told me, that I was a "Psycho." Because I told him the truth? (As I saw it!) Yeah, maybe I was a bit passionate and used some "colourful" words I maybe shouldn't have used, but so what!

That's why I like to take the "thank you for the opportunity, best of luck" approach. The coach knows why and what he did or didn't do.
