Above is what you wrote after a polite exchange between Gary and ssarge. If that is your idea of respect for coaches, it says a lot more about you than I can.

Oh, c'mon Anon. I respect Scott immensely (have no experience with Gary, but he's obviously on top of his stuff too), but if they are on here they are subject to some razzing just like anybody else. That quote is tame compared to some of the crap both you and I have been responsible for. All in good fun...

Wade is a good guy and a very good umpire. He takes what he does seriously and cares about the job he does on the field. If all umpires were like him, youd likely see very little umpiring bashing threads going on. To take the post Wade wrote( which is obviously humor intended)

he likes softball, period.

Scott is a very nice guy and I have known him for many years. He approaches things much calmer than I do, I wish I was more like him in that regards(Maybe it is because he is so much OLDER than I :P

I am sure most of us all could hang out, drink some beer and get along quite well. Many times we write stuff on here that is taken the wrong way... it is the nature of the written word.

I have had PLENTY of people that think I am a major a.. based upon what i write on here and the way I coach. I have had very few people that I am involved with personally in the game of fastpitch that I didnt get along with quite well.

Take a step back, breathe in, and now lets get back to normal. ;)

wadeintothem wrote:Today we salute you Mr. Strike Zone Excuse Maker Whiner Guy.

Without you, a blue like me could not count on you to breed for me a DD who accounts for 3-4 of my 42 or less outs I must earn every game.

And when your beloved DD's short few years of travel ball are over, and shes gone on and shacked up with Bobby Joe in a trailer, I again thank you Mr. Strike Zone Excuse Maker whiner guy.

Without you breeding the perfect waitress, after a rough weekend on the road and at the ball park, us umpires would have to eat that horrible grape jelly. Instead we have your DD who will bring us the strawberry jelly packet. We count on her to bring us our steak and eggs. We count on her to bring us that extra chocolate shake in the big metal cup.

So crack open that bud light, Mr. Strike Zone Excuse Maker whiner guy.

You are an integral part of an umpires life. We thank you for the outs and we thank you for the perfect waitress.

If you read back through Wadeintothem's non-rules related posts, it's evident that he despises the practitioners of the game, players and coaches alike. He will occasionally attempt to cover up his venom with lame, after-the-damage comments like "it means relax. Im just goofin around." But these come only after his true spite has been unleashed, and revealed.

What is most confounding is why someone so hateful of the people who populate the fastpitch arena would devote so much time and energy to mastering the officiating aspects of the game. Why bother? Fastpitch hardly needs another umpire with an inferiority complex, so it must be that he needs fastpitch.

But again, why? Is the softball field the only place he can garner a modicum of respect? Or exert his authority? Is his private life so pathetic that he has to ingratiate himself in an activity he despises just to garner a sense of self-worth?

Apparently, from behind his mask of authority, he feels entitled to take cheap potshots at men and women who have devoted their lives to the betterment of the game, and of the girls who play the game. With the trusty ASA rulebook as his guide he can judge any action with Christ-like authority, and unilaterally demean any person who questions his ASA sanctioned powers, said sanction making his interpretation the only true interpretation. And while agreeing there are numerous grievances ASA needs to address, he prefers to denigrate as "followers" the coaches who seek to improve the game, rather than join in their effort. As if any of this might make him credible!

There is no love for the game evident here, but rather sheep-like dependence on ASA, covetous need for authority (however fleeting), reverence for the status quo, and refuge for inadequacy.

How sad it must be, to be a man so entrenched, so bitter, and so hateful of others who are enjoying their lives; who strive for success playing fastpitch; who work diligently to improve the game for our children; and who envision a fastpitch universe better than the one we have today. How very sad. What a pathetic figure such a man draws.

Chillax! Just goofin' around. Got it?

I agree with this....and if he is such a good umpire..."good guy"....he needs to work on his delivery....alot!!! JMO

Is that referencing one of Wade's posts on the umping site where he was telling someone it was obvious the poster had no experience with umpiring?
I see no hope for the future of our people if they are dependent on the frivolous youth of today, for certainly all youth are reckless beyond words.

Anybody can be a good guy over a beer... one can only assume he didn't offer his opinion on which restaurant he hope's your DD's end up working in? Or where the better trailer parks can be found?

Below, a sampling of denigrating comments he's made in this thread alone, which reflect, from the very beginning, a complete lack of respect for Gary and the other Gold coaches who are trying to better the game at it's highest level. Gary, Scott and others have consistently been considerate in reply, and really don't deserve this barrage of disparaging comments. It might be one thing if there was ever a reference to Premier, but instead we get Gary messiah, Gary this Gary that. That is making it personal, and it's my contention that the Gary Hanings of fastpitch deserve more respect.

And sure it's a message board, anything goes. So if some cretin wants to come on a fastpitch board and disrespect the efforts of the best coaches in the game, they have every right do so. But he shouldn't expect to skate through without being called on his b.s.

And hey, no reason to get all up in arms, I'm just goofin' around.

A compilation:

wadeintothem wrote:*Most umpires will treat this much like a "alphabet" soup friendly,
*I wouldnt count on umpires making this tournament great unless OCBB et all really want to pay out. I doubt they want to.
*No umpire would be impressed by this tourney.
*"remember when OC Batbusters were a good team?"
*your wallet may certainly prefer to be running your own alphabet soup org
*IMO, that puts your org at about the "B" level
*If you guys cant read and see this is a High School player show case, not a championship
it is good to showcase youre hs players
*There is nothing to be a champion of.
*Its just Gary and a few friends, and what, an office in your garage and a fax machine from Office Depot?
*This is a buddy league gary.
*Right now you have nothing of a system or structure. No officiating, no code, no by laws, no board - you have a good ole boy method of inviting teams, some borrowed officials of repute you will not know, and a few fields in HB.
*You know, you can take an 84 Toyota to Earl Shives, but that doesnt make it a 09 Lexus.
*Just some guys on conference call deciding who gets the nod and who will win the tshirts stored in gary's garage.
*Apparently the opinion of those forming up this tourney is any umpire will due and they all suck anyway... so apparently a non issue for the Gary Tourney. I had thought it was. My bad!
*Gary Messiah mumbo jumo
*No one but your flock has degraded any officials Gary, perhaps you could reread the thread?
*If Gary has his way, and they do lower the bar to effectively compete at the 18G level
*Who knows who would beat them next year if they showed up in OKC? One things seems certain, they are trying desparately to make sure they dont find out.
*On that date you will come on here crowing about what a great tournament it was, how all the umpires finally got all the calls right and were the best you've seen, how the fields were the best and immacutlate, how everyone hit many home runs because of the short fences, how gum drops fell from the sky, and how angels floated from the clouds and sang the national anthem at opening ceremonies...
*Can someone get me one of the Tshirts?
*because there is nothing to be champion of.
*You will have watered down teams.
I*'m trying to watch Gary explain how he needs ASA 18G in OKC to be a HS showcase like his tournament, or how he HAS to use college players, or has to release all the girls earning his org money,
*I'm already committed during the time the 2010 Gary tourney is going on.
*Nah, I dont need too. I'm just gonna sit back and take notes until all the invitational slots are full. lol.
Don't worry about tomorrow. You did that yesterday.

Undoubtably. But as it says in the book of Proverbs, gray hair is a crown of wisdom. Of course, I'm balder than you, too, so that doesn't leave me with much.

This would be a good time for all to chill a bit, I think, and return any remaining conversation to softball, rather than personalities. I hope that we can do that, anyway.

Best regards,

Scott
