do non softball people think you are crazy?

What's on your mind?

We are crazy! What sain person would change careers, ruin a brand new SUV, pay thousands for bats and gloves, spend countless hours surfing softball forums and online softball stores while we are suppose to be doing our job? Drive 4 hours for a 1 1/2 hour practice? Spend hundreds on a wardrobe consisting of Tournament T shirts and shorts? Monopolizing out DD's weekends and getting the satisfaction of seeing a huge smile every Sunday evening? Alienate our friends of the past because we have found new friends......

When I first got into this lifestyle. I was always defending myself 24/7. My DD's grandparents were the worst for a couple of years. Now they are constantly badgering me about when the next tour date is and what motel are we staying at! My DD's friends parents were always telling me I was crazy. Now they are either playing travel ball or keeping up with my DD'S HS team or travel ball team.

I have a couple of more years of this mad lifestyle. My DD's pitching coach has a bet that after my DD is done that I will drive the 4 hours to just watch other kids pitch. I got a feeling he will win. I have seen a few of those poor saps there watching my DD.

In about 4 years I will be doing the travel baseball gig. I dont think those nuts have the same passion for the game as the softball weirdos do. I almost wish my son would be interested in just watching the grass grow!!!!

My in-laws really think we are crazy! "Why do you spend money you really don't have, to let her play ball??!!" My reply has been "You already have two grand daughters pregnant at 15 so we figure we would spend it now for a short period of time instead of the next 18 yrs raising babies!" We also have two younger boys, one is into soccer (rec) and the littlest one is wanting to play football. Crazy is really gonna catch up with me when I have 3 kids needing to be at three different places at the same time. Have they perfected cloning yet??

Yeah I'm crazy, and I love every minute of it! :P

Yep, people think we are crazy. Actually my husband quit his job yesterday because his boss, who dear hubby has been putting in 80+ hrs a week for told him that he needed to get his priorities straight. Hubby said yeah, your right, I have been missing too many ball games! :D

Frogs Mom, I hear ya. I know a couple people with kids in different sports and its tough. I know a family with 3 girls and 1 boy all on different teams, meaning different tournaments. I dont know they do it.

I just have my DD and son who just started rec soccer. Since I take DD to hitting/pitching lessons I get to take her to softball games and tournies when theres a conflict. My wife is not happy about it.

I agree with all the posts about spending time with DD. I am not sure I could be as involved if she was in cheerleading. Its great and I will enjoy it while I can.

Add me to the list! Yes, people think i/we are crazy for driving all over the place, packing up the ice chests, chairs, pop-ups, sports drinks, summer survival kit and dont forget the extra cleats just in case! So yes, I am a softball parent also, and I would not change a thing! 8-)

Yes, people at work think that I am just insane (yes P, I know what you are thinking, I know EVERYONE thinks I am insane!!!!). :D  :D

Right now my dd is pitching for Rec. while her team is dark. She does all 4 sports in Middle school (cross country, volleyball, basketball, and Track), and is still playing on Sunday's. My oldest is doing HS softball and with both of their schedules right now, we are going 6 days a week with Friday's off for the girls to do what they want.

They are allowed to decide what they would like to do and if that includes quitting softball or anything else, so be it.

I love every minute of it and am enjoying seeing my kids play. I have meet some really great people along the way and made some really great friends. It doesn't get much better than this.

Are pitcher’s parents really crazy, or are they just neurotic, delusional and myopic? :geek:
