Maybe you should take your rose colored glasses off and think of your child before you think of what is best for the team. If your child is not happy at 10U, will she be playing at 12U and above. She has loved this sport since she first picked up a glove and bat and I will be damned if some asshole assistant coach is going to ruin that for her. I am not the one working to get better, she is. If they are down to 9 players, then it wasn't a very good organization to begin with. So perhaps YOU didn't meet your responsibility as a parent from the git go?

That's a classic......begged to play for others, but somehow riding the bench on her own team.

Coach11 ... Yeah ... begged is a strong word ... but what maddawg is describing is classic 'Daddyball' ... and in the event that you have not witnessed it first hand, the quality and ability of a player riding the pines has nothing to do with the formula ...

Perhaps ... or if you read the maddawgs OP it seems that things/ Coaches changed after she was on the team ... in addition ... what you and others continue to overlook is that on occasion even if managment doesn't change, a teams direction may ... and on rare occasion a player and or Parent may be left with little choice ...

Sounds like the Head Coach has no spine and is allowing the assistant to run things. Gave up my Head Coach position and became an assistant this year, Head Coach during our 1st Tournament bad, bad, bad, Daddyballer... I went through the Tournament but come Monday afternoon asked to meet him for a beer and flat out told him "That was the worst case of Daddyball I have ever seen". He took it really well, but we'll see this weekend if it sunk in.

"Here comes this spring, same thing, ..."

Sounds to me like nothing changed. They made a mistake by continuing with the team in the spring and then midseason realized they had made a mistake. At that point they bailed. In this case, since the kid was on the bench, I doubt that it had a big impact on the team. But at the end of the day, they left in the middle of the season because they themselves made a mistake.

My kid has played on more different teams than 95% of the kids on here. She played for 3 different teams in one year. She never left a team in the middle of the season. 5 years ago she quit softball altogether to focus on softball. A year later, she wasn't happy playing soccer so she returned to softball. Every step of the way, no problem, only support. Is she happy today? Nope. She's been wanting to skip her senior year in HS and get on to competing in college.

Some of you so called parents need to stop worrying about how happy your kid is and raise them to do the right thing, instead of teaching them that quitting is a possitive thing.

I've no doubt that some of what he is relaying has some truth to it. I've witnessed "daddyball" on occassion. What I have trouble swallowing is that a top notch player......one good enough to be persued by " 3 top teams"...is riding the bench behind a coaches daughter. Even with daddyball, it's the marginal players who typically get shafted.

I did read the OP....he stated that he/his DD was unhappy at end of first season....yet they CHOSE to remain with the team.

I recognize nothing is black and white. But to me it sounds as though maddawg is looking to justify his reasons for screwing up and remaining with a poor organization....not justifying leaving.
