Hockey is great live ( very very fast )... where you can see whats happening all over the ice ... but I don't care much for watching it on TV ... I did actually try to watch a Cricket match in Salem, VA. last year when we had about 3 hours to kill between games ... the only part that I think I understood was that in between 'rounders' ( I think that's what they call an inning ) that the participants appeared to be having a picnic of sorts ... and they often cheered when I didn't think anything happened ... cornfusin for sure ! ... I only played golf a few times and had about the same strategy as Donnies Uncles ... I used to love when the "Wide World Of Sports" was on every Saturday ... probably before your time, but it was responsible for introducing the US to many different things that we didn't get to see 'pre-cable' ... I've watched the X-games and things like that ... maybe someday I'll be able to sit still long enough to watch golf ... but God I hope not

Once you've played hundreds of rounds, and hit tens of thousands of golf shots, you gain an appreciation for how amazingly talented these players are...and golf becomes a great spectator sport.

Of their talent, I have no doubt. But damn, I would like to see those guys , after they get a home run or score a touch down or whatever is a big deal in golf, to say 'yea - wow' or show some emotion. Not like the spastic dances that occur in the NFL, but just show something that indicates that they just did something that was ... good. And that they enjoy what they are doing. But, then , enter the liquor. Thats why I think the drinking is so important - the golf must not be fun, so drink.

Yes I do not play the game. My sons both play and play well. They have put out instructions that I am never to be allowed to handle a golf club and I am never to be allowed onto a golf course. Something about anger management issues.

I stand corrected. I remembered the wipeout part vividly, but not the lead up to it.

Just as an example of how you always remember the mistakes / errors but not always the good stuff, does anyone remember what the "thrill of victory" was. I can still see the ski jumper wiping out, but can't for the life of me remember what video accompanied the "thrill of victory".
