Player Leaving Mid Season!

If the team only had 9 girls and leaving means the team is left with 8, then it is probably a crappy team anyways and a crappy coach.

Then why would you have agreed to play with this team in the first place? Crappy team/crappy coach would be evident before season began.

Just like I don't expect some coach to give my kid a free ride and not cut her if she needs to be cut.

If a player isn't good enough to make a team, why would she make it beyond tryouts?

Guarenteeing a roster spot and guarenteeing playing time are two seperate issues.

At the end of the day, you have to do, as a parent, what is right for your daughter. If that means leaving pre-season, mid-season, post-season. Then so be it. I would never apologize or feel the need to explain to anyone for leaving and doing what I feel is best for my kid. I would Inform the necessary parties, do my duties to return uniforms, pay back fees, etc. yes, absolutely. But nothing beyond that. Just like I don't expect some coach to give my kid a free ride and not cut her if she needs to be cut. I haven't signed a player agreement yet that didn't have weasel language like "a roster spot doesn't guarantee playing time..." or "players are expected to do XYZ to maintain their roster spot..." or "paying doesn't guarentee playing time or a starting position..." . If they want to keep it business like, I will do the same, in my head I have my own player agreement too.

Oh you're right. I get it. You have your daughter play on teams, pay your fees, take her to batting practices and team practices to be #13 and not play, player contract said that anyways !!! Gotcha.

I dont have players sign agreements, I dont have parents sign any team rules. If you pick a player that is dedicated, team rules are not really needed. Some things just dont need to be in writing. You set the tone as the coach and I feel that issues that come up, everybody will know exactly what is expected. Somethings just happen, and you deal with those issues as they come.

The more hard line rules you need, the less actual control you must have. Just take things as they come, use some common sense, and running a team is really not that hard. But, maybe it is, because so many teams seem to struggle with the easiest of tasks???????????????

I don't know how the teams you deal with handle it......but on this team it is made absolutely clear at the time a player is offered a position on the squad. Everyone is guarenteed X number of innings during pool play, and no one is guarenteed anything come elimination games.

This is information gathered at the time of research. You find out exactly what it is your daughter is being offered. You either agree to it or not.

Elaborate what ? Great teams become bad teams. Bad teams become good teams. Good teams stay good teams. Mediocre teams become bad and some mediocre teams become good. Some stay bad, some good become great. #1 pitchers leave and SS's move up early and suddenly it isn't the same team anymore...on and on and on and on. I'm not a soothsayer and can't predict the future. In your universe it seems nothing changes and 10-12 girls play happily ever after, and if that was the case you would be right, but things constantly change and that is why you are full of crap.

So then the answer is yes....you do sign your daughter up witth any team that accepts her.

While all of the above, can and do occur...it is extremely rare that it happens mid-season. Rarer still that it occurs at all with a quality organization.

Do your due diligence and finishing out a season won't be that difficult.

Yes, you're right again, and pay no attention to the man behind the curtain and the 300-500 "rare" (daily) posts on eteamz in the CA region alone looking for players. Sorry, I just can't talk to people who are not grounded in reality.

80% of the time its the parents who swap teams not players. They do this for the good of their DD not the team. There are a few situations that are unavoidable. Team folds, Going Dark, Coaching Changes, Player or Parent Changes, Finances,..on & on & on.... But for the most part what makes teams great are when they are strong 1 thru 12. That is 12 players all playing their parts. Some just pitch, some just catch, some just play outfield, & some just play infield. It's playing with in these roles that is difficult for parents to swallow. Not players. Now there are those FREE AGENTS of softball who have their parents as managers & image consultants. We call them "JERSEY COLLECTORS" These are the players that travel from team to team for a free ride, pitching time, starting spots, or the famous tournament Player (Ringer). Who shows up for 5 games and is never to be seen again. Now I have a problem with them. If my DD as well as my family commit to your program you as a manager must also commit to us.
If not we are out!!! mid season style!!!!!!!!
